The History of the Kiyrie

As told by Sabbath

Long ago in a time forgotten by even the oldest of immortals, all was darkness and formless, without life or being. Only one being lived in this time, Eth, great all powerful god of gods. Eth existed within this formless world, without form or gender, living in the pureness that was Eth's soul. As time passed, Eth slowly began to realize that being just one in the universe with lonely as could be. Eth's thoughts echoed through darkness crying out for a eternal companion. Eth's cry started the first spark of life. small and weak, yet very alive. Eth layed it's eyes upon this spark, watching it pulse weakly in the darkness and slowly begin to die from the lack of warmth and this brought the first tear to Eth's eye. This tear dropped from Eth's cheek into the void around it where it grew and began to spin with a life of it's own, pulling it's energy from the fading spark.
Eth cried out again, this time in fear for the spark's life. This cry created the light of hope. This light drew the tear to it, keeping it entranced until Eth could move the spark to Eth's bosom, cradling the tiny life and nurturing it until it had the strength to survive on it's own. Because of the nurturing the spark recieved from Eth, it grew and began to glow with added life, making the first being in all the universe with a form to call it's own. This new form had gender, that of male, something that Esh did not have, making it very unique in the universe. Still nameless, this spark thrived under Eth's care, gaining knowledge and power from his father as he grew.
After much time passed the spark finished his growing, yet yearned to learn more. His curiosity was very much like that of a cat, and that brought him to his first encounter with the light of hope and the first tear of Est. When the spark's eyes fell upon the pureness of the tear, his heart swelled with an eternal love. So much was this love that the tear stopped it's spinning and moved away from the light into the sparks hands. The tear shown like a diamond in spark's hands and fed on his love for it, growing and gaining a form of it's own. The tear also formed gender, that of female. The tear learned from love, bringing her immense knowledge and a yearning for more, much like the spark's.
When Esh saw what had become of his tear in sparks hands, he felt happiness and such love that Eth blessed the two with his power. The spark and tear consumated their new union with a kiss that fills even the universe to this day.
Such as everything until the tear noticed that is was only Eth that had a name then wished one for herself. She spoke with the spark at length about it until he too conceeded that he should have one, too. So they approached Eth with their request. Eth thought at length about this simplest of requests then agreed, giving them each a name that fit them. Osiris, the spark of life, and Hathor, tear of love and caring. These names gave them power to create new life. Hathor, carried and nurtured the new life until it was strong enough to live with out her aid, much like Eth had done with Osiris in the beginning. Osiris loved the new life growing within his mate before he could see it. While the new life grew, Osoris created a cradle for it, and called it heaven, the place where the new life will rest and grow until it learns to be on it's own.
Time passed quickly for the three until the day when the new life could live freely of its mother. Hathor labored long and hard to bring the new life into full being. As she labored, Osiris paced, throwing sparks up from his nervous steps to form the first stars then traced a path through them. Eth too was worried, but occupied it's formless hands in creating a gift for the new life. The gift was a soft blanket for the new life to nestle in when born. Eth then laid the gift beneath Hathor as she began to push the new life out, soaking it with her birth water, ruining the gift.
While the new parents held and admired their child, a girl, Eth took the afterbirth and the gift so carefully made and wadded them into a ball. Esh placed the soaked ball to dry in the light of hope which still burned brightly in it's corner of the void. When Esh saw that only one side of the ball faced the light, it set it to spinning slowly so that all sides would dry evenly.
More time passed and the child grew. gaining strength and knowledge and a name, Bast. The young girl wandered throughout the universe, looking at everything that was created before her birth and naming each one. Each star was friend to her and glowed more brightly when she named them, her favorite, she gave a special name, Poalir, and it glowed more brightly than any jewel. When she came upon the ball that was to be her first gift in life, she did not know what to make if it, watching it spin aimlessly with out purpose or life in the light of hope. She asked Eth why it was spinning and when she was told so that it could be reformed into a new gift for her, she cried, her tears falling onto the ball to create pools of water with little streams tieing them together. These tears were of joy for the gift and of sadness that she could not enjoy it.
Eth's heart was touched by this so the gift was given to her with the promise that she would care for it as if it was a fragile life. Thus said, she named her gift, Haven, and cared for it as if she were the one who gave birth to it. She gave Haven a purpose by creating the first plants and animals on it. She nurtured the growing life forms as her parents nurtured her and her siblings as they were born. She watched Haven spin and evolve from her bed, heaven. Life flourished as she grew, growing and changing all time. She praised new forms as they appeared and grieved for those that died out. When one form dominated and began killing the others, she grew angry and did everything she could to remove them from her little world. Eth stopped Bast from completely destroying them, saying all life was precious then showed her how to change them so they wouldn't destroy her hard work.
Eth called Osiris, Hathor and the others over to join it and Bast in changing those creatures. They pulled their powers together and blended the species together, making them even more diverse and more animal like in appearance, thus were the first furs on Haven. They all stopped to admire their work while Bast put a little more power into Haven, giving it a life to call it's own. Haven then awakened, and felt all the creatures making their lives on it and immediately loved them, but the sadness of having the knowledge that none were truely her's consumed her, causing storms an plaugues to ravage the creatures. Bast was not pleased by this so she created special creatures, the first dragons, unicorns, griffons and other special beasts, with the help of Haven.
For a while, Haven was happy that there were creatures she could call her own, but they still were not truely her's. They were only half her's. So while Bast slept, Haven spoke the spell which which created a brand new creature, one that was truely her's. The new creature was hidden deep within the forests while it grew and learned. The wisest of the dragons and furs taught it everything about survival, showing it how to use it's instincts. Soon came the time when then new creature could survive on it's own. Being very cat-like and resebling the feline race, it chose to live as a cat so as not to be found by Bast.
Time passed for all and the time came for the creature to breed, but there was no other like it. So another cat, a panther that wasn't changed by the gods's magic, bred with her, giving the first full, true form all of them. Haven was overjoyed by this and when new life grew within her new creature she burst into song. Just before the birth of the new life in Haven's creature, Bast found her. Bast was angered by Haven's secret, but remembered Eth's words, all life was precious so she bit back her tongue and cast a small disfiguring curse upon the creature, giving it only one form, that of the panther that fathered it. Haven was saddened by this and when Bast left, she gave the power of shape-shifting to her creature then a name, kiyrie, beloved of the earth. Because the young kiyrie was female, Haven made sure that any cat available could breed with her when the time came so that more may be born.
The kiyrie grew into a strong race but very secretive to keep Bast from finding them. Many, like the rest of the creatures on Haven, gained the ability to work magic other than their own. Some, were stronger than others, able to take forms that were not feline. Few and rare were those, yet they were all very long lived.
Though all kiyrie are panther in looks, they are much more, tiger, lion, cheetah, jaguar, and many others flow within their veins, making them stronger and faster than most of the feline species. All kiyrie, because of the nurturing they recieved when they were first formed, are a generous and kind, if very secretive breed. These traits have kept them alive over the eons since those first days. Being made magical, they seek out other magics to learn, while they maintain their own. But, because of this, the kyirie are now a very rare race, jealousy of other species have killed off most the numbers. Though Haven grieves for each kyirie death, it also makes those that are left stronger and hides them, for fear Bast may return to find them and decide to take them away from her forever.
