"Bread and Wine"

This painting was completed on January 9, 2006 and its subject matter serves a double purpose. First, it satisfied my need to continue painting still life subjects and second, it contains a social message. The book directly behind the candle in the painting is Darwin's "Origin of the Species," a book whose theory is being called into question (again!) here in the United States. I am very disappointed with those who would ignore scientific evidence for personal beliefs and I hope that we, as a nation, are not heading down a path from which the return will be at best difficult. The painting is 16" x 12" in size and is in the collection of Michael Duda of Massachusetts.
