ELEMENTS OF FULFILLMENT
Lello
Bookstore - Porto, Portugal,, May 19th 2006
Hello
again, friends and fellow authors!
Three
more months have gone by,
and one more season has passed sice we last came here to
share our news about our activities and projects with you.
Just as we expressed then, (Check OneLight*
News II - March 2006)
we were prepared to receive
anything the Spring might have to offer us; we had "planted
our seeds", which we had cared for with enthusiasm and,
above all, with much love - very deeply nurtured by the
extraordinary support of so many of you -
and so we believed, with no excessive optimism, but with a
spirit as positive as ours has always been, in the
possibility of a lush
"blooming". And actually, it seems to have
been well worth believing that good things could happen
after all... because what Spring had to offer exceeded even
our greatest expectations!
We
would like to highlight two unforgettable events
occurred, both of them, on the same weekend of May last -
two events which were true
Elements of Fulfillment:
* May
19th 2006 - "ELEMENTS OF DREAM"
In
the beautiful and historical setting of the
Lello - Chardron
Bookstore
in the
Portuguese city of Porto, four Elements of Art (Music,
Image, Expression and Dance) blended with the four Elements
of Nature (Water, Earth, Air and Fire) in a celebration of
Dream
and of the
Elements
which, such as proposed in the subtitle of our book
"Universes Beyond the Visible",
may be present in its composition.
The
actor and journalist
Alberto
Serra
(also a poet, having recently published his first book,
"O
Aparo do Demónio"
-
"The
Devil's Nib")
recited, brilliantly, several poems selected from each one of the
chapters - "Elements" - of
"Universes Beyond the Visible ~
Elements of Dream"
with the magnificent piano background of
Juca
Rocha,
who offered a delighted audience a performance of his
original compositions and musical arrangements, specifically
created for this event. Simultaneously, in a perfect
symbiosis, four very graceful dancers from the
Grupo de
Dança do Porto (Dance Group of Porto)
brought
to life, through the most enthralling choreography, and
under the flawless artistic direction of
Teresa
Vieira,
each one of the four Elements of Nature depicted in several
photos by
Joseph* (Joseph R. Sherman)
on exhibition at the bookstore. This memorable soirée
concluded with a lively literary assembly, in the course of
which a brief presentation was made, by
Alexandra* (Alexandra Oliveira),
of the
"III Antologia de Escritas"
-
(III
Anthology of Escritas) coordinated
by the poet and literary critic
José Félix and featuring
poems by several authors from Portugal and Brazil, some of
which were then read by Alexandra and other poets present at
the event - namely, the Brazilian
Carlos
Savasini
and the
Portuguese
Ana Maria Costa.
This pleasant part of the soirée was further enhanced by the
input, among others, of the poets
Luís Monteiro da Cunha,
Teresa Gonçalves,
Alice Sequeira, and Maria Mamede,
who read or recited some of their own poetic creations.

* May
20th 2006 - "ENTRECAMPOS - GENTE"
It has
been our great pleasure to welcome a cheerful group of
friends and fellow authors to
Quinta
da Lage,
our home, where we were honoured to host a meeting of the
workshop of collective poetry
"ENCONTROS DE ENTRECAMPOS".
("Meetings of Entrecampos")
Founded
some years ago in Lisbon by the Portuguese actor, theatre
director,
playwright and poet
José Gil,
this workshop of poetry ( which has adopted the name of the
place where its associates would gather, in the beginning,
every Tuesday - a café located near the railway station of
Entrecampos,
in our capital city), has been producing collective works of
great quality based on a wide variety of themes, in which a
growing number of poets from
Portugal, Brazil, Portuguese-speaking African
countries, and even, more recently, of other origins, have
been collaborating.
The
methodology followed comprises the previous definition of a
central theme or subject around which the poem must be
developed;
subsequently, all the individual collaborations of those
poets who may have found inspiration in the main subject (or
in other fragments created in the meantime) are sent to the
workshop, and finally, after a time that may vary between
one and several weeks, the actual meeting ("Encontro")
takes place, in the course of which as many of the
co-authors as possible (whose presence may actually be
physical or virtual,
through means such as MSN, SKYPE or PALTALK, among others)
take an active part in the revision of all the poetic texts
sent to the workshop, as well as in their rearrangement, so
that all such fragments will blend with all the coherence of
a single poem, or better said, of a harmonious whole.
The
theme chosen for this special meeting ("encontro") of
ENTRECAMPOS
(the
first to be held outside the city of Lisbon), was "PEOPLE"
("GENTE"),
primarily inspired in the title of a novel by the Portuguese
author
João de Melo,
"Happy People with Tears" ("Gente Feliz com Lágrimas")
.
In the creation of this collective poem have
collaborated, on the whole, 20 poets - a true record - some
of whom contributed with two, three and more texts. It was
the assignment of the group gathered at
Quinta
da Lage
to complete, during a vibrant session which included
readings, notes and a very fertile discussion, the work of
rearrangement of the poem,
rather brilliantly started by the Angolan poet and literary
critic
José Félix
- also the coordinator of the writing group
"Encontros de Escritas"
(please
check our page of
"Places worth visiting"
).
Later,
this poem in which we all take so much pride has been
published, in its final version - for now, available solely
in Portuguese, but that we hope to be able to feature also
in English, soon - in two blogs,
which we invite you to visit:
1. The
oficial blog of the
"Encontros de Entrecampos",
coordinated by the young Portuguese poet
Jorge Vicente
(May 2006 edition)
"ENTRECAMPOS - GENTE"
2.
Special blog for the formatted and illustrated edition, by
Alexandra* (Alexandra Oliveira),
of the collective poem
"GENTE"

Always
guided by a deep love of Culture and of Art in all of their
facets, as well as by a certain audacity that makes us live
as fully as we dream, we have been striving to
evolve and to grow, as authors, artists and editors,
beyond the scope - no doubt legitimate, but also restricted -
of the exclusive diffusion and promotion of our own
creations, activities and projects.
*
From this perspective, we are pleased to announce the
imminent opening of a new bilingual space in this website,
specifically designed for the diffusion and promotion of the
creations, activities and projects of more and more
authors and artists from various countries.
*
In its initial phase, this new space, whose name aims to
convey an instant idea of its contents -
+
AUTHORS
& CREATIONS
- will
introduce, to the visitors of ourwebsite, a first panel of
authors - in this case, of poets - of different
nationalities, featuring, with their respective
biographies, some of their works and other information of
great interest. Additionally, the published works of some of
the poets featured in this first panel,
will soon be available at our
ONLINE
BOOKSTORE - which,
like the new space
+
AUTHORS
& CREATIONS
itself,
is prepared to include, in a near future, many more works by
many more authors!
In the
meantime, we hope that you will be favouring our website
with your continued visits, for which we thank you all,
wholeheartedly.
See you
soon... see you always!
