Since Chins will eat nearly anything they can destruct, it is up to you to make sure all the bad stuff is out of the way. Treats are ok in moderation, as too many can make them sick (kind of like people and people treats, right?). Just make sure the food is made for chins, NOT hamsters, rabbits, or other animals. After all, would you eat food designed for another living species?
Good safe foods for anytime
Chinchilla Pellets- standard pressed pellets with the healthy ingredients Chins need
Alfalfa Hay- fresh hay only, as much as they can eat kept in constant supply
Timothy Hay- also as much as they want, fresh only
Treats to be fed in moderation (2-3 pcs a day)
Raisins- Chins love them, and they are good to use during training
Chinchilla/Small animal treats-various crunchy snacks mostly made with a vegetable base
Cereal like Kix or Cheerios; something plain but crunchy!
Banana Chips(my chin's food has these in it and he always eats them first!)
Bad foods and other things they could end up eating
Unsafe Wood- wood from 'fruit-with-a-pit' trees, mostly anything but kiln-dried white pine
Paper with printing on it (my chin loves to strip paper off boxes and eat it)
Nuts of any type (fat and chemical content)
Anything plastic, chemical (cleaners), and things you wouldn't let your child eat!
