This two-day symposium is aimed at practicing designers, architects, and design students. Its goal is to increase awareness of the fundamentals of universal design, as they particularly apply to residential interiors. Day 1 will focus on defining the issue, examining the ideas behind accessible, inclusive, and universal design, and increasing understanding by presenting a range of viewpoints. Day 2 will explore the applications of basic design principles to accessible interiors through the presentation of a Case Study, and smaller workshops on building codes, lighting, and kitchen and bath design. Refreshments and lunch will be provided on both days. Highlights of the symposium include a free pre-conference private tour of the Lighthouse, a model accessible environment (limited to 20). Up to 10 credits of NYS/ AIA HSW Learning Units and other professional continuing education credits will be available.
