My name is Merritt Montes. Though the majority of my artwork consists of Mimbres pottery designs and Hopi Kachinas, I am a Ute native american. I have been blessed with a mother that has degress in both anthropology and archaeolgy, she began my education of the Anasazi, Freemont and Mimbres cultures very early in my youth. Throughout my life I have lived in the Southwest where these cultures are prevelent(at least their remnants are.), I have also had the opportunity to live on the Hopi and Navajo reservations. I have profound respect for all of these cultures. The designs I use are traditional. I have been known to use aspects from several Southwestern cultures in one art piece.
