Milford Actors Workshops

Welcome to Milford Actors Workshops. The urge to create is as necessary as the urge to breathe. This is the purpose of our endeavors. We are here to help create and inspire students to fulfill their acting desires, whether it be for self-esteem, hobby, or a future career.

It is our goal to allow a safe environment for students to express themselves through trying new things while learning the “business” of acting.

It is the student’s responsibility to attend classes, complete homework, and be prepared to meet new challenges. We try to assure a well-balanced class allowing students to work on different levels and different projects. It is to the students’ advantage to work with people on different levels. This challenges their flexibility and range as an actor.

The business of acting is self-marketing and we are happy to provide you with information regarding the pursuit of this business.

Due to the fact that classes often rely on scene partners, we request notification of absences in advance if possible.

At Milford Actors Workshops we base each class on Teaching, on Passion, On Believing, and Succeeding. Teaching you the skills necessary to achieve your dream, Passion for the gift of acting, Believing in yourself, and Succeeding in reaching your goals.

Thank you for sharing your passion with us.

Director/actor/instructor Laurie O’Keefe has been studying acting and performance for eighteen years. She began teaching fifteen years ago after extensive training. Her training includes studying with Sanford Meisner in his summer program in the West Indies, Bob Collier's famous Television Commercial class, Theater Sports, Acting for the Camera, Soap Opera Technique, Monologue Technique, and improvisation, all in New York. Laurie has put her talents on television and stage, including a national tour with Radio City Music Hall Productions. Besides acting and teaching, Laurie has a background in “the business of the business” of acting and has worked in casting, and has also directed several showcases of new talent.

Teen Class:Ages 8-16

This class is designed especially for “teen” acting students. This class is based on improvisation, commercial technique, scene study, and monologue technique. It gives the student a broad range of acting, whether it is for career, hobby, or self-esteem. The class also teaches discipline, memorization skills, and self-respect. We like to mix both the fun and serious business aspects of acting.

Classes are ongoing, with a showcase for the spring, summer, and holiday season.

$20 per week

Drama I:Ages 16 and up

This class is a combination of Meisner Technique and monologue technique. Meisner Technique is based on the Sanford Meisner Technique of “living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” This technique is especially favored in television, film, stage, and soap operas. It is widely suggested by casting directors and agents.

Monologues are necessary for all actors to have and this class is designed to help each actor choose and make interesting a monologue for performance. It is designed to reach out and get the attention of casting directors.

Mondays from 6:00 - 8:00

$25 per class

Next class: TBA. Please call for more information.

Drama II

This class is for actors who have completed the Drama I class or experienced actors who have backgrounds in Meisner Technique. This scene study and performance class allows the actors to put their talents to work. The actors will learn a new monologue and perform scenes, which will be blocked for performance in our successful showcase.

The showcases, which are open to family, friends, and the public will be set for winter, spring, and fall.
