My Quizes

Performance

Have you ever hated the linearity of stageplay, shows, performances? Have you ever read the Terms and Conditions before signing up to something? Do you love the cheesy nature of Game Shows?

In this piece I wish to explore the nature of the random. How the rules change when the outcome is uncertain. I will also be inspecting the position of the game show in our society and its attitude towards personal identity.

Can a game show be used to find out what people know about themselves? Can it be used to find out what they know about me?

The problem is that we have an idea about the outcome, but by nature, it is always random. As humans we have an unerring ability to find patterns were they don't exist, to evolve rationality when the universe at our level is less than rational. Have you ever seen shapes in the clouds?

In this performance I will use several methods of gaining randomness to change the way in which I will interact with the audience. These include.

Cards

Darts

Dice

Roulette

The results of these random acts would bring forth new interactions with the audience and new ways in which the performance will develop. For example, the cards are thrown into the audience and I ask for the person who caught the Ace of Spades to join me and from there they would roll a dice to work out what would happen. For instance

1.    I would be romantic towards the contestant

2.    The contestant would tell me something about themselves.

3.    I would insult the contestant

4.    I would sing to them

5.    I would tell them a secret about me

6.    They would ask me a question

Each round of this I would give the contestant a prize depending on how well the section went. Then at the end of the show each of the contestants would come together for a final round and a grand prize. It would also involve using information to find out what the contestants know, or can guess, about me the artist. I will do an amount of market research to find out what the general public think olf me, then use this in the event.
