Kadia's Art Portfolio

My name is Kadia Koch. Currently, I am seeking an Art Teacher position. In 2002, I graduated from Austin College with an MA in Teaching. My Texas certification is for Secondary Art.

This webpage contains pictures of Art Work created by my past Art students during selected lessons. This first lesson plan is part of Multicultural Curriculum.

This first project is called Zoomorphic and involves morphing Islamic Calligraphy into the shape of an animal or object. This lesson is an extension of the students' Calligraphy unit. The first picture of a crab says "beach" in Arabic and the second picture says "shy". The third image of snakes says "bit" in Arabic.

The students' learned Old English calligraphy, then they explored Islamic calligraphy. Each student picks an Arabic word or phrase and chose an animal or object that paired well with the word. The word is morphed into the shape of the animal or object creating the Zoomorphic final product. A rough draft is done in pencil and the final draft is done in pencil first and then traced with calligraphy markers. To finish the artwork students were asked to add a border or background. Lastly, the student filled out a self-grading sheet that helped my grading process and gave the students experience at critique.

The letter R was brilliantly created by translating the name Rick into Arabic and then morphing the Islamic calligraphy into the shape of an english R. By Dylan Garza
The heart decorated picture says "to give" in Arabic by Tiffany Gunn.
The Christmas Tree says "Blessings during this holiday season".
The flower was done by Laura Martinez, but she didn't give me a translation.

This site in underconstruction and incomplete! More lesson plans and examples of Artwork will be added regularly.
