DAVID'S WEDDING VOWS
Joan, you are my exquisite prophet, my beautiful anima, my oracle.
You are my closest friend, my lover, and my benign nemesis.
Without your inspiration, I would be satisfied with mediocrity.
And without your sweet vivacity, I would be bitter.
I take you to be my wife in accordance with the common traditions
of our different faiths.
I vow that our children will be raised in the heritage of Moses and the laws
of Israel.
I vow to be true to you, to honour you, and to respect you
as my equal.
I vow to comfort you in fear or grief and to celebrate with
you in joy.
Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following
after you.
For where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.
Your people will be my people, and where you die, I will die and there I will
be buried.
May the Lord do with me and more if anything but death parts you from me.
