BRESKENS VUURTOREN

Breskens, Netherlands

Breskens lies across the Westerschelde from Vlissingen. My first trip over here, I managed to come from Maasvlakte all the way down to Vlissingen, only to look across the channel at Breskens and you can see it even with a nasty storm right over it dumping all sorts of rain that was headed my way. It was 4PM and I would still have to wait on a ferry ride and, I got my photos of Vlissingen and ran for it. I headed east out on the A58 towards Bergen op Zoom. I made it probably 20 kilometers before this massive downpour overtook me. Like a wall of water, it just passed over all the cars on the highway moving faster than we could hope to. Couldn't see a thing.

So 2nd trip, I found Strijensas and Willemstad and got back on the freeway around 2 PM. I figured I should go for it, never know when I'll get to come back. So I tear off for Breskens, all the way down through Belgium  and west from Antwerp then north up to Breskens. The tower stands outside of the town and right out on the beach side of the dike. It was hard to find parking so I guess I sorta parked illegally and right on the opposite side from the tower. It is a pretty location but the tower just stands by itself. I don't believe I have seen very many, if any at all, that still have some sort of keepers quarters nearby. Although I caught a couple of long distance shots the 1st time, I consider this light to be the last one I found in the Netherlands.

Here's how I saw it:
