February 2006

Janik has now relocated to Provence, in the South of France.

After a period of adaptation to her new environment she has started to paint again. Her new creations are as bold and colourful as ever and they still provide the viewer with a feeling of magical enchantment.

Great news is that she is preparing for a solo exhibition which will take place in MONACO in March 2006. Please go to Monaco Exhibition to view details.

Le Châle Bleu

Nearly twenty years ago Janik began to paint on silk, enjoying its intrinsic richness and potential as a link to interior decoration. She soon became absorbed, experimented with techniques and exhibited her first solo exhibition at the National South African Gallery in Durban in 1984.

No longer using the traditional gutta (a viscous substance used to define and limit shapes) she has overcome the problem of ink diffusion. She is thus able to impart complete freedom and fluidity to her lyrical forms.

Her works exhibit similarity to water-colour in its fluid aspect, yet silk painting remains a highly elusive and difficult medium since the inks run far and fast on this delicate material.

She portrays in her work a variety of different art subjects and it is in the lustrous qualities of silk together with the magical effect evoked by brilliant ink colours that she creates special enchantment in her paintings.

Janik has had several solo exhibitions in South Africa and Belgium and she has an established clientele both locally and throughout Europe.

At present she is in the process of relocating her permanent residence and will be operating from Belguim and Provence when  settled once again.

The internet has opened up a new display window for Janik's art, and she hopes to develop a fully representative virtual art gallery where art lovers can sample her talents and make direct e-mail contact to comment on, or purchase her works, or simply to say hello.

Janik also works on commissions for those who  prefer to have something specific or close to their hearts painted specially for them.
