Anthropological study of cultural patterning in linguistic variations among the people of Northern Vietnam; survey of historical and theoretical development of linguistic evolution in the area; case studies based on Dr. Hart's most recent field work; emphasis on ethnography of speaking and verbal art. Graduate standing or consent of instructor required.
How the minority cultures of Northern Vietnam conceptualize the biophysical environment through religious beliefs and ritualistic practices; how images of the environment influence activities and how they are incorporated into tribal life.
