Coloring
Walkthrough
Now that i've got the highlights done, its time to add some
effects.
What i've got intended for this picute, is a sort of nighttime
picture where its pretty dark aside from some striking highlights
and some kool glows given off by his leg boosters. So in order to
give that effect, i add another layer and set the opacity to
about 60% and select a nice blue-ish color and begin to paint
some nyze highlights in their respective places [meaning where
they should show!]
Now in order to give off that "glowy" effect, alls i do
is i go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur set at about 2.
That should give it a nice soft look that will really enhance the
pic
-----------------
Now its time for the background!
w00!
Now, what I do for backgrounds is i select that one layer above
the original line art bkg layer [the layer you filled white] and
create yet another layer above that. From here, since its a sort
of dark picture, i'll just fill it black.
I bet you're seeing some out of the lines goof ups eh?
Me too
So what i do to fix it is, its tedious but necessary, go through
every individual layer and with my eraser, manually edit it out.
Only takes a minute or so but is a must
Now that thats done, i create yet another layer above the black
layer and this time i'll use just some dark, cool shades of blue,
maybe some red and stuff and use my airbrush [tap "j"
to access it] set at about 35% opacity, and just lightly click
different areas.
Just remember, what you do here is entirely up to you. You can
either fake a bkg like im doing, use some kind of filter, or even
copy/paste a jpg of a photograph if you want. Its all up to you
But here, this is where im airbrushing part of the engine glows
All i do is i take a real dark blue and airbrush around the
general area
Next i take a slightly lighter blue and do the same only a little
more towards the focal points, or wherever the glows are
eminating from. I'll do that until i get a nearly white blue
-----------------
Now to make the glow really pop, I flatten ALL the layers down to
one single layer [after saving the psd file that is. And be sure
to save a lot too]
After its all flattened, i create a new transparent layer above
that and now i simply add a dark blue around the edges, then
proceed to adding lighter colors until i get it right. And if it
clouds the picture too much or takes away the details too much,
just play with the opacity a bit.
