Handmade
Books and Journals
These
are my latest collections of handbound books. I have been collecting
previously loved garments, such as suede jackets or skirts, to help
me create unique journals. I use the fabric from these garments
as the outer cloth for the journals. Each journal gains it's uniqueness
from this practice, as no two garments are completely alike.

In
the following collections, the spines are all soft, covered with double
wrapped book cloth. I used linen thread to sew the signatures to the
spine of each book. The inside papers are 90lb cold press, multimedia,
watercolour paper that I tore by hand to help achieve the one sided
deckle edge. |
The
Brown Suede Jacket Collection |

for my journals. As always, you may click on the photos for a larger
picture. |

This
is the "green journal" which I am currently working in.
It was "journal 1" from the brown suede jacket.
This journal is not for sale. |

The
Black/Green Flower Dress Collection |
|
This
is a picture of the original dress I am using for this collection.
I found it in a used clothing store, and I just couldn't resist! The
colours in the fabric were so sensational - blacks, greens, roses,
silvers... so I have started making journals out of this dress. |
|
This is the
"journal 1" from the black/green flower dress. It has
4 signatures of 8 pages for a total of 32 pages. It has the same
stitch pattern as brown suede jacket "journal 3". I also
added some decorative trim on the front and back.
This journal
is for sale. Please email journalarts@canada.com
for pricing information.
