excerpt from “New Wave Travelogue", Chapter #16:Tilly and Fred Jack It”

She looked into his melancholy eyes “You still don’t get it, do you?”

He stared, waiting.

“I am leaving because I DO love you.”

“WTF?”

“I only have “relationships” with men that I do not love. They cannot hurt me.”

“That is so messed up.”

“Maybe...but, right now I can’t take a chance on having another person I gave my heart to...I...ah...I can’t pour my love into you only to have you leave me...permanently. I DON’T WANT YOU TO DIE. There.”

“What’s the chances of that happening?”

“Who knows. I don’t have a good track record. Out of five, three gone, one very ill. I am filled with sadsickness. I can’t handle anymore right now. I need time.”

“I’ll wait.”

“I HAVEN’T EVEN BEEN ABLE TO GET ANOTHER DOG YET!”

“I’ll wait.”

“GET OUT OF HERE NOW!”

Her face redden and raw, tears flooded down her face, she picked up a life-size, hand-painted pheasant figurine and smashed it against the wall. CRISHH!

He tried to grab her flailing hands, “Babe.”

“No!” she screamed as she picked up the hollow-bronze, won-at-the-carnival cowboy clock.

She clipped his right ankle on the metal edging of the travel trailer door as he escaped.
