Step 11 - Shadows in the Membranes

Finally, I add the shadow to the wing membrane itself. This gives the wing bones more depth, and helps them stand out from the membrane. The second wing (not shown) is just a mirror of the first wing. Most of it won't show in this pose, but it's a good exercise for you to try to draw a little of it. Using lighter or darker shades will help it look like it's more in the background, behind the first wing.

This tutorial barely begins to cover all the variations that wings can have, or all the ways to light and draw the poses they can get into. Look for my Advanced Wing Tutorial for information on detailed shading, theories on wing surfaces and bend-points, perspective views and more stuff.
