Edge Shadows

The first step is to darken all around each colorshape in your drawing. I use the airbrush, selecting the color of each shape, and then choose a color that's almost black, but still has some of the color of the area you're shading. Choose what side you want the light to come from. In this case, I have the light coming from the left side, although it's hard to tell at this stage.

To give the appearance of light from a particular side, shade the opposite side more heavily, leaving the side with the light hitting it with more of the lighter color showing.

It's okay to leave the tops of certain shapes unshaded if you want. Play with things...you'll find the look you like.
