Now that I've got all the coloring and shading done, I can start fiddling around to get the wing just the way I like. In the last picture, you may have notcied that the areas under the purple feathers, the contour feathers for the primaries, were a lot darker. They didn't look real to me, so I used some of the lighter color to draw some hairs into them. This 'flattened' them out a bit, and helped them not stand out from the wing so strongly. I also added little shadows to the end of each of the primary and secondary feathers, way down at the end. I did this just to add interest to those feathers.
