HISTORY OF STAINED GLASS

This web site is very enjoyable to view while learning the history of stained glass.

Ever since I was a child, glass has fascinated me. When I was just a little girl, I used to tell my mom, when she would ask me what did I want to do when I grew up and I told her I wanted to be a glass blower. I have been working with stained glass for about 25 years now, first taking a class by the way, with my mom, and continuing to do projects mostly for a hobby. I even was commissioned to make an African Grey Parrot window for the entertainer, Ben Vareen. Today, for instant gratification and it seems there's a lot less time in the day than I can remember, I use depression glass plates and a knife, fork and spoon using stained glass techniques to create "Gourmet Windchimes".

HISTORY OF ONE OF THE GREATEST PRODUCERS OF STAINED GLASS

Louis Comfort Tiffany, in my opinion, is the greatest creator of stained glass technique ever. He created works of art such as lamps, windows, and blown glass art that rival nature itself!

Here is a website that shows the master Tiffany at his best!

USES IN STAINED GLASS

There are so many projects that be done out of stained glass. Windows, garden stepping stones, terrariums and whatever the imagination can come up with.

Here is a website that gives basic instruction on learning how to start stained glass. I do think, however, that going to a local class to learn the technique is best. Everyone should experience cutting and putting together a glass project even if it is just a garden stepping stone or a candle holder using copper foil technique or jumping to the big league and using lead to do your first stained glass window.
