String Changes And General Cleaning

This lesson will tell you how to maintain your guitar. I will tell you how to change your strings and the such.

If you break a string or just want to change them, this is where you look. I'll Give you a step-by-step process for doing this.

1)Clean the area thoroughly, this will keep your guitar looking nice, as well as playing nice, and help keep your strings in tune also.

2)Put the end of the string(the one without the ball) through the bridge, there is a hole where the other string came out of. Just pull it all the way through, so the ball is all the way against the bridge.

3)Pull the string, trying not to kink it, down the fretboard, and line it up on the nut, using the same slot that it is in at the bridge.

4)Wrap the end of the string, which should be pulled just enough to where it will not slack, around the tuning post. Wrap it once around, then stick it through the hole or slot.

5)Tune the string using your tuner.(I will explain the tuning of a guitar in the next lesson.)Turning the tuning key counter-clockwise should sharpen(higher pitch) the tone, clockwise, flattens(lower pitch) it.

6) Use wire cutters to cut the excess string off the end of the guitar.(careful what you cut)

Cleaning your guitar:You can buy guitar cleaner at any guitar store, it is never very expensive, ussually less than $5.00. DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF RUBBING ALCOHOL OR WINDOW CLEANER! It will ruin the finish of your guitar.

It is always good to work in smaller sections and make sure you get the whole area well, I like to work in about a 4-6 inch section at a time, slowly moving around the body and finger board.
