For as long as I've had my cosmetology license, since 1986, I have dreamt of having my own little salon as well. That dream was finally realized in 1999 when I opened the doors of Athene Hair Art & Beauty.

The reasons for wanting my own salon are probably the same as anyone else who has their own business; to have something that is your own, that you created, and to have the freedom of being your own boss. I also wanted to be able to create the kind of atmosphere that I wanted to serve my customers in. I've aimed for an atmosphere that is soothing and relaxing where customers feel pampered and well taken care of. The salon is located on J Street in midtown Sacramento in a garden court yard which is lovely to look out on while your service is being performed.

Being a hairstylist requires so much more than just the ability to cut, color, perm and style hair. Those skills are extremely important, but so is the ability to listen to your customers, communicate well with them, and be sensitive to their needs and desires. I can't tell you how many times I've had a customer come in complaining that their old hairstylist never listened to what they wanted. Instead the hairstylist just did whatever they wanted to do. That's a very frustrating situation to be in. I try very hard to make sure that I understand what my customer wants before I begin any service. It's also very important to be honest with customers about what their hair can and can't do, what upkeep is involved with a style or service and to keep their hair as healthy as possible.

Our mission at Athene Hair Art & Beauty is to provide top- quality, current hair and beauty services while helping our customers to feel pampered, listened to and cared for.
