Artist Bio

Painting has been a vast part of my life since I was a child. While residing in Alberta during the 1980s’ I acquired certification in: Pastel, Acrylic, Watercolor, Pen & Ink & Oil. Through experimentation and development it was evident that “OILS", where going to be my true love.

The pursuit of natural and historical subject matter has taken me from the majesty of our Canadian mountains in our Western provinces to the ocean shores of our Eastern provinces. Where I perceive that I met with my calling. I began to paint water scenes and lighthouses in the 1990s'. In the process of creating this series of works I felt driven to create more than just a painting.  I wanted make the viewer  feel like they were THERE, like they could reach out and touch the rocks on the coastlines or the flowers on the hillside. The challenge is to try to express the three-dimensional world on two-d

From this point (approximately 6 years ago) I developed a sculpture technique that I call "PERSPECTIVE RELIEF WORKS" , I actually sculpt the work by hand (no molds) to raise up the focal points of my pieces, this process is often done in layers. I then carve minute details & continue on to complete the work in oil.

To my delight I cannot keep up with the demand and popularity of these original mixed media oil on canvas/art board sculptured works.

PERSPECTIVE RELIEF:

Perspective The representation of three- dimensional objects on a flat surface so as to produce the same impression of distance and relative size as that received by the human eye. In one-point linear perspective, developed during the fifteenth century, all parallel lines in a given visual field converge at a single vanishing point on the horizon. In aerial or atmospheric perspective, the relative distance of objects is indicated by gradations of tone and color and by variations in the clarity of outlines.
Relief*  1. Sculpture in which figures or other images are attached to a flat background but project out from it to some degree (bas-relief, haut-relief).
