I know that it has been a struggle to do just that. I have not been weaving much lately. I had thyroid cancer surgery the last of October and then a Radiation Iodine treatment in December. The energy level has been pretty low or non-existent. I hope to get started on cleaning my craft room up and start a weaving project soon. I have also been looking for a job since I fully believe my employer got scared and let me go. Any way I hope that everyone out there has had a Happy New Year and will be weaving soon and forgetting any problems. In response to Fred Mertz's request for recaning of his canoe seat, take a look at the Furniture Repair Directory on my website at http://www.WickerWoman.com/repairdirectory.html which lists national experts in Chair Caning and Seatweaving, Wicker Repair, Upholstery, and Furniture Stripping & Refinishing. There are four sections and several experts have disciplines in several of the categories, but for Fred's purposes of the canoe seat caning, see the Seatweaving and the Wicker Repair sections at: http://www.WickerWoman.com/repairdirectory_seatweaving.html http://www.WickerWoman.com/repairdirectory_wicker.html Fred, if you want to learn how to do this yourself and can come to Grand Marais, MN in February, you can enroll in my Chair Caning Class and bring that canoe seat with you to work on! http://www.WickerWoman.com/teaching.html Best of luck, hope this helps! WW is so short lately. Is it because everyone is winding down from the holidays? I'm guilty too, haven't made a basket in a few weeks. My last pieces were made of driftwood, honeysuckle vine, and reed, a very unique combination. Just wanted to remind those of you who might be in the greater Cincinnati or Lexington area. Every Monday night at 6:00p.m., we have a basket weaving class at the Dry Ridge Outlet Center in the Grant County Tourism Center. If you would like to sign up, you may call 1-800-382-7117 between the hours of 10a.m. - 7p.m. Monday thru Saturday. We also have chair-weaving classes. These are on Saturday afternoon, but you must pre-register. I wish a Happy New Year to everyone. I have a friend that summers here in New England, but lives in Northern California and is in basket withdrawal. Are there any classes, conferences, or fellow weavers in that area that she can connect with? Let me know and I can send her the information. Thanks, Sharon in RI where it rains, sleets, snows all at the same time! %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: The January - February Newsletter is Posted Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2005 22:51:18 -0800 From: "Patricia" To: weaverswords-owner@yahoogroups.com I don't get $2000 orders every day, so imagine my elation when first reading this e-mail... This is the story of my order from Nigeria. In this case, it's Sellers Beware. The January-February 2005 Newsletter is now posted. You can read about Sellers Beware as well as other stories and articles of interested on my web site at www.patriciabaskets.com. Also included in this issue is an amusing gourd/Elderhostel story, and several new patterns. The Antique and Collectable section focuses on Splint Baskets, and the question of the month is how to make good-looking curls. This Issue's Free Pattern is a Heart Basket with a laced rim and the free technique is on making crows feet. The kit of the month is a Fishmouth Basket. And last, but not least, I am celebrating my 25th anniversary of making baskets. Hope you find something you like here.
