This album is green and entitled Woodlanders Gathering and highlights the 3rd Annual Woodlanders Rustic Furniture Gathering in Mineral Point, WI that was held in July this year. http://www.PictureTrail.com/wickerwoman Organizers are the famous rustic furniture maker and author, Daniel Mack from NY and rustic furniture makers and Mineral Point, WI Longbranch Gallery owners Sandy Scott and Judith Sutcliffe. I purchased Daniel's newest book, "Rustic Garden Furniture & Accessories" that he so graciously autographed for me and consented to a picture taking spree, too! I taught a reed herringbone footstool class and my "Coin Catcher" antler tray and took a rustic mirror class, lamp class and picture frame class myself and observed several others. John and Marcia Whitt from Missouri were there too, teaching John's rustic trellis class and Marcia with her black ash egg baskets, and one of my B & B teacher roommates, Regina Riley from Iowa with her beautiful pine needle basketry classes. Lee and Lindsay from Willowglen Nursery in Decorah, IA were there too, discussing growing cultured willow and also showed how to make garden plant supports, towers and sculptures. Although I have tons of wild willow and diamond willow growing already here on our northeastern Minnesota property, I purchased nine basketweaving willow plants and will be their northern test plot person! I waited too long to transplant, and thought I'd lost them to shock, but they are coming back fine now. Will be interesting to see how well they do during our -45 Minnesota winters. The property on which the Gathering meets, was owned privately and has been for sale for some time now. Not wanting the new owners to ban the Gathering and other arts organizations from using the historic Shake Rag Alley setting, Sandy and Judith decided to purchased the nine acre parcel which includes a log cabin, classroom/studio, private home, antique shop, potters barn, coffee shop, pottery building and the wonderful centrally located spring. By their purchase, the duo is insuring that Shake Rag Alley remains available to the Gathering and other interested art organizations for years to come. They can use any financial help available, so if you have deep pockets or care to contribute to this worthy cause, contact Judith or Sandy at 608-987-4499, Email: woodgath@netexpress.net or visit their website at http://www.Woodlanders.com "Weaving for Preservation, Education and Innovation" The Wicker Woman/Cathryn Peters/Angora, MN USA Website: http://www.WickerWoman.com/ Blog: http://wickerwoman.blogspot.com Photo Albums: http://www.PictureTrail.com/wickerwoman Furniture Directory: http://www.WickerWoman.com/repairdirectory.html Ezine: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WickerWomansWeavings/ %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Info Sent: Sunday, September 12, 2004 9:13 PM From: "Arlene J Zaloznik" To: I have been trying to access the Basket Maker (located in Maine) website and from 2 different computers and 3 different email accounts I get a message that my IP address is forbidden access to the web page. You can get them at hardware stores, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. for about $3.25 and I think they are a time saver. The land has not been disturbed by plows, cattle or anything else for over 30 years, so it's pretty pure stuff. I've been experimenting with it for coiling baskets and have only made one rather crude attempt at it so far, but have used it as a weaver in my antler baskets to some excellent results. I have also made several 15" braids that I've given to some of my Native American friends that don't have it available to them to use in their sacred ceremonies. Another interesting project I started is a plaited hat that is not quite finished yet. The braid is only about 1/2" wide, so it's taking a very long time to plait enough for the hat and then to sew it together. Could some of the rest of you that use it in your coiled baskets offer some hints? I have tried using both freshly gathered and dried, but find the dried seems to work better. It sure is hard to insert those ends into the copper tubing gauge I have, but maybe it's too small. It's about the size of a drinking straw, in fact, I've used those too. Weaving with 7 ply waxed linen thread seems to be overkill too, upholstery thread or raffia would probably be better, no? Thanks for any help you can offer. Oh yes, in the August issue of Wicker Woman's Weavings ezine my good friend and author Sandie Shores wrote a wonderful article about the Sweetgrass and it's use and beliefs in the Native American community. Collins, Jr." Good Morning All, I have been looking for Victorian Handles and can't find what I want. Does anyone know of someone who makes them - or who makes handles? I need the 7" H x 8" W smaller ones, a bit over 26" in total length, with the rim cut-out in the center of the shaft area, for a 4" extension. The handle looks circular rather than flat on top. When I found the pictures on the NorEsta Cane & Reed site I thought, 'that it is!', but they don't have that exact style anymore. Would surely appreciate any suggestions! These are chairs from 1890, which came from a Burscough, England church. They are pew chairs with the pocket in back for the prayer book and rush chair seats. My question is, how should I clean these rush chair seats?. They are in very good condition, but just dirty and dusty. I plan to refinish the chairs but wanted to clean the seats first. - Second question would be whether after cleaning, should I put anything on these seats to preserve them? Thanks so much for your help! A.
