I am very fond of leather handles in round baskets <>. But, my guess is that you would like a single wooden one across the top. The simplest way is to use a notched handle that gets inserted when you are rimming the basket, rather than to use a D handle. My experience is that the D handles in round basketwork best if you are weaving a larger flat-bottomed basket, so you can press the spokes down to the table to the same level as the handle. The D handle is usually the first "spoke" I lay out when using a star base. To minimize the rocking, I weave until I have about 3-4 rows on the side of the basket and then press the base flat to the table. Once the basket is completed, I dampen the sides and base again. I put a board over the top of the basket, through the handle, and stack canned goods on the board. I then let the basket dry completely for a day or two. This forces the base to flatten out and stay level. Karen Homestead Heirlooms, LLC' The home of fine leather goods for your baskets. Then I adjust the spokes at the bottom after twining and weaving a few rows so that the basket sits flat. I usually can get the basket to sit right. Hope this helps. You can correct the rocky basket syndrome (RBS) by pushing down on the sides of the basket on each side of the handle to make it sit flat. I usually do this after I finish putting the rim of the basket. I hope this helps. However, I'm wondering in this day of apartment living and busy parents, what is really the most useful item for the parents and the baby. Is there a pattern for covering the diaper genie system...I used cloth and haven't a clue about the newest and latest...is there a pattern for holding the disposable diapers, or would a large toy box be better. Please let me know what project you made and proved to be very useful. Thanking you in advance and David for all his assistance.
