Collins, Jr." Hi, I'm looking for some help with storing my reed during the summer months. I work in a separate building. It has a/c but right know I am running a ceiling fan and an oscillating fan to keep the air circulating. I did have trouble last year without the fans. Do I need to run the a/c all the time? Thanks For Any Help, Arlene bsktlady@hiwaay.net %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Basket Liner Sent: Monday, May 24, 2004 1:53 PM From: Shirley Hill To: 'davidc@iei.net' The only question I have for those of you who glue liners in is how to wash them. Mine gets dirty rather quickly (guess I'm a slob!) and gluing, ungluing, etc would be a pain and time consuming. I made one liner that fit over the rim and had a drawstring to tighten, then had an extended top that came up and had another drawstring at the top to keep things from falling out. I made the bottom liner right side when you look inside the basket and the top liner right side out for overlapping the rim and closing. A little extra work, but worth it to protect your valuables. That worked pretty well. Then I could just slip it out and wash it. It did hide the rim, but the convenience of being able to slip it out easily was worth it. And if I didn't need the top to draw up to protect things, I could just loosen the drawstring and push the top part down into the basket. Has anybody tried Velcro? %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Basket Classes Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 14:44:30 -0700 (PDT) From: "Joanne Howard" To: "David Collins" Hi Everyone, The Cicadas have invaded Northern Virginia and they are a noisy bunch!!! For the second year in a row, we were lucky enough to have John McGuire here for a weekend. We had an amazing class. John makes work seem like fun. He is a great talent and if you are ever near one of his workshops, you must go. I am already planning a trip to his studio next year. I can't wait. I am teaching classes at Ft. Belvoir and could use some input about day vs. night classes. I am not really a night teacher but if I must, what seems to be a good time? I am struggling with this as I really want to put in 4 hours of teaching time per class but I can't really start classes until 7pm as people get out of work later around here. BUT teaching until 11pm on base isn't an option. How do people generally feel about doing one basket over two weeks? How do you charge for the class that way? Still the same amount even though you are teaching two days? Do you do the classes like a Tuesday and Wed. of the same week or same day over of a two-week period? My original thought was that classes would be better during the day for those whose children are in school. Ugh... help with some answers.... I had the grandest intentions of adding some wonderful convention photos taken by Corry Williams and Chris Bragman, but I ran into enormous computer problems that still have not been fully resolved. It seemed like as good a time as any to hand over the website to a more computer-savvy webmaster in the person of Pamela Zimmerman. Pamela's other sites are spectacular. I know that she will bring the same expertise and creativity to the NCBA site. Thanks to all of you who visited http://www.ncbasketmakers during my tenure as webmaster.
