They have the largest display of Indian baskets I have ever seen, and give lots of information on them. I don't remember if they had Delaware baskets or not, but if you could talk to their basket expert, you might get some information. I received a wonderful waxed linen pouch from Rae in Alberta. It is made into a necklace with beads and fringe in a pretty shade of pink. I for one don't have the patience to work with material that small and flimsy. She also sent me a scene made with leaves, moss and corn husks. She makes them into nature scenes with hills and trees. Also included was an Alberta pin and some wonderful earrings made from beads and balls woven out of sweet grass. I couldn't have been more pleased. They smell wonderful. Thanks to Faye for hosting the swap. I was walking in the woods this weekend and saw a lot of birch lying on the ground. When I picked up the birch logs, the inside fell out and I was left with just the birch bark. I would like to cut this birch into strips to weave into my baskets. Is there a technique for treating birch to make it pliable and cleaner? I also think it should be thinner. Thanks in advance for your help. It is not worth it. The color seemed watered down when I used that thawed dye. Finally, I figured it was better to freeze expensive meat, etc. I get Rit at Michael's or A.C.Moore; they both have 40% off coupons often in our newspaper. YEA! Deer Creek Basketry Guild cleared $1,300 at our spring bingo afternoon; 92 people attended; We are looking for a bigger hall for next year. It's a fun afternoon; the prizes are our handmade baskets.
