Thanks David for all you do to keep us in touch. I have an old question... I will check the archives but thought I might be able to get a quick response here. I have a friend who wants to make bases but has not been able to find a slot cutter small enough for his router. Could anyone tell me the size needed and more importantly where to purchase it? He has tried grinding down the smallest one he can buy in his woodworking catalog but was wondering if there was a place to buy the bit already sufficiently tiny!? Thanks! Everyone seemed to be having such a great time, I was jealous I didn't have time to take any classes myself. Thank you all for stopping by our booth and introducing yourselves. The convention was GREAT for us and we are looking forward to doing it again next year. I think the icing on the cake for the convention was the great MC at the meeting who picked all the winners for the raffle prizes. He was a riot and reminded us about 20 times that our generous raffle purchases made about $6,500 for NCBA. Also, the male model for the scarf's that were raffled off was a big hit too!! Be sure it is always sealed tight. Put petroleum jelly on the entire 1-1/2" tip before and after each use so that you can easily wipe the tip clean and seal it tight. This will keep the cap from getting clogged with glue preventing a tight seal. Before closing, tap the bottle lightly on the table so the glue will settle down out of the tip. Then squeeze out a little air to clear the tip. We keep a T-pin handy to open the tip if it gets clogged. Store in a cool place. Hopes this helps. Thanks to all the people that worked so hard. You did a great job. I still have a few openings left for the NASHVILLE RETREAT at the Artist Colony Inn in Nashville, IN. It is July 19-23, 2004. There is over 32 hours of instruction on making the 36-rib buttocks basket. One evening we attend a Play and The Brown County Players and we plan on taking advantage of the hot tub on the roof of the Inn. With over 300 shops to visit we will have plenty to do in our free time. The flowers are in full bloom and the gardens are a riot of color. Breakfast on the porch of the Inn is a special treat and most of the rooms have a balcony to enjoy the activities of the town with a view from above. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, this is it. If you would like to join us contact me and I will be glad to give you the information. Karen's Baskets Karen Zane 521 N. Are you aware of any sources or how could I learn how to do this myself? She said she heated her water to boiling on the stove, turned down the heat slightly, dumped in her RIT (making sure it dissolved) and then added her reed. I started using that process, using a canning pot I found at Wal-Mart for $10 and my reed came out gorgeous each time. Staining wood bottoms: I sand them and then spray with Min Wax spray. It is fast and simple. A pasta cutter works fine for cutting ash, paper, etc. Suspect hat is what John sells at a mark up. You can find them in a cooking store or a Bed Bath and Beyond type store. Think they are about $50 and come with two size blades. Other blades are extra. Seems as if there are two different brands and both work fine but the blades for the two are not interchangeable. Whatever brand cutter you buy you have to buy the same brand blade. About using wiping gel on a basket. The gels I have used are rather thick (like jelly) I put some on my rag and spread it out on the rag and then wipe it on the basket. That way you don't have the big globs. Also about keeping the glue in the freezer. That works I think but can be a disaster if it spills. I don't buy that kind anymore. I buy the one from the hardware store by lockrite called quiktite. It comes in a small bottle like fingernail polish. One of the bottles actually has a brush, which is great. I found it is easier to use and is a bit thicker so it doesn't run. It might take 30 secs longer to set up but have never timed it so I don't know. It too dries up but it's much smaller bottles so you don't waste as much and I think it's cheaper in the long run and you can run out to the store and buy more if you run out. . Date: Sat, 27 Mar 2004 19:52:12 -0700 From: "Faye Stukey" To: weaverswords-owner@yahoogroups.com I am excited to announce that there are baskets already en route to their new owners! I would really appreciate it if all of you who signed up for the swap would both notify me when you mail your basket as well as when you receive your basket... and don't forget to write in to Weaver's Words so we can all hear about your baskets! One question that has come up several times has to do with whether or not to include extra goodies with your basket. I understand there have been various swaps in other forums where its required that you include something... on Weaver's Words it's always been a matter or personal choice (at least to my recollection)... if you'd like to include an extra something special for your swap partner, feel free to do so, but it's not required nor is it expected! If you have written to me and I haven't responded in a timely fashion, please forgive me, but I have had some medical issues in my immediate family that have been pressing upon me. I would appreciate any kind thoughts (and prayers, if you pray) directed towards my daddy... who is 84 years old and facing his third surgery in as many months. I hope everybody is weaving away! The employees are just super nice too. Both of these locations are along I-75 South of Lexington, KY. Their people have been killed by enemy tribes and many of them are living with AIDS as well. The widows of each of these tribes have banded together to form an association called Avega. The members weave "love baskets" to symbolize the need for healing in their country and the world. In one village the entire population of 300 survives completely on the sale of these baskets. Since so many children were orphaned, the women have been urged to take in as many children as they can, so they have even more mouths to feed. A company by the name of Eziba is making the baskets available to the public. I read the article and was very touched, but when I went to the website I was amazed by their bravery and artistry. I ordered one of the "love baskets", and recently received it. It is truly a work of art. They are about 9" high, tightly coiled and lidded. Just beautiful. Even if you don't have room for another basket (I know you're all laughing), please check out the website www.eziba.com and look for the article on "love baskets", or call Eziba at 1-888-404-5108 for their catalog. Eziba also markets other items from all over the world and has many unique things. Enjoy! Paula %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: A Question For You Swappers!
