Sent: Sunday, December 22, 2002 1:43 PM From: Jill Choate To: Undisclosed-Recipient Satch and all the rest of the Choate's (including twelve NEW puppies) send you the warmest of Alaskan Holiday Greetings. The Great State has finally started putting on her winter wear for the season. In Talkeetna we are still awaiting the "big one" to hitch the dog team up but at least we've had enough to make the scenery look like sifted sugar trees for Christmas. It's a busy season and although we try our best it's been hectic around here getting everything ready for the holiday. Jennah and I broke trail to Anchorage to see "The Two Towers" and spend some time with Grandma before the holiday this week. Headed home I received my first present of the season. Alaska opened the curtain on the birth of a new day. The full moon lit up the snow and the dawn broke slowly over the purpled shadows of Denali. A band of pink alpine glow separated the sky and the trees ladened with snow bowed their heads in reverence. Sometimes I forget what a magical place I live in. If I could find a big enough bow, the cabin in the woods is what I'd put under my Christmas tree. We can't wait to start running dogs under the watchful eye of Denali. We'll have a horde of stories to share when we get back and I'll save them up until we meet on the trail this summer. Until then may you and your family know the wonder of a peaceful day in the wilderness of your dreams. This invitational exhibition will celebrate how American basketmakers use materials they grow or gather and process themselves. The show will feature work by traditional and contemporary basket artists from throughout the country, including basketmakers who carry on the historic Amana willow basketry traditions. "We now live in a global village where materials grown in other parts of the world are readily available to basketmakers everywhere," said Festival organizer Joanna Schanz. "It's easy to pick up the phone and order raw materials, but nevertheless there are still American basketmakers using natural materials they harvest and prepare themselves. We wanted to show their work in context with the materials." The show is on display April 26 through June 22, 2003 at the Amana Arts Guild Center in High Amana. The guild center is located one block north of Hwy. 220, just off I-80 in eastern Iowa, and is open from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm Wednesday through Sunday. For more information contact Joanna Schanz, 618-8th Avenue, West Amana, IA 52203 or phone (319) 622-3529. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Please Post Sent: Thursday, December 26, 2002 8:11 AM From: Susan Roberts To: Good Morning... It is so thick these days. Last pounds that I got only had 10 very think long strips in a lb. Great for big baskets. I have changed some of my patterns to use 5/8 flat; cheaper per inch anyway. One long strip had many orange spots. What is that??? I will use it in a basket that I know I will stain. Spring Curls and Christmas Cross Stitch. Both are from the late 1980's early 1990's. The poor photocopies we were given in the classes I took in the early 1990's did not have author's names on them.
