Could you please post this message for me? I think you are the only way to reach these people. If you have picked up one of our free Bakery Basket patterns at Michigan Convention, please change the number of filler spokes to 12 in the smaller version. It had also been posted incorrectly at our website. It is corrected now. You can print the corrected version or just amend the one you have now. Sorry for the error. I noticed it when getting spokes ready for my adult education class tonight. Thank You, Norma Buehlmann www.basketclass.com %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Re: Seagrass Basket Sent: Monday, October 28, 2002 9:56 PM From: Arlene J Zaloznik To: Regarding the questions about a pattern for a basket made entirely from seagrass - I just added a pattern to www.basketpatterns.com - Seagrass Basket. This is a round basket - you can vary the size of the basket by adjusting the length and number of spokes. Hope this helps! This has been a tough fall--a broken finger, a lawsuit (not about the finger). And all the minor stuff that pops up from time to time, so I*m hoping for a nicer, friendlier, winter! Bert, let me know when to send your Job*s Tears. I have a whopper of a bag that will take you years to use up. Our guild has undergone a change and we are all much happier--and a more cohesive group. We don*t weave "baskets" anymore (for awhile, we seemed to have a group of weavers who wanted to weave every cute little basket that came along. things that offered no challenge to the rest of us)--we are working on techniques--sharpening up our braided rim skills, working with fill-ins on ribbed baskets, etc. Although we are not exclusive, we aren*t actively recruiting brand new weavers. We*d prefer they have a bit of experience under their belts first. And we are having our second guest weaver--Bert being our first last Feb. (or Jan--can*t remember!). Angela Plager will be teaching us how to weave a beautiful credit card holder using a handmade loom and bits of fabric. She is an award-winning artist and is about to be "published" so we feel very lucky to have her. I was amazed to see how many basket making techniques she uses on her beautiful bags. Our decorative painting guild held their annual auction last Saturday to raise funds to sponsor mainland instructors and we are encouraged to contribute items other than painted ones. And 3 of us donated baskets. I was stunned at the bidding on these treasures! They were going for several times the amounts we expected. A pleasant surprise indeed. Now, if I could only get those prices at fairs :-). I taught a waxed linen bag (the pattern appeared in a Bead and Button magazine late last summer) and created new addicts to this venue! We then had a 5 hour workshop on working with waxed linen, learning to weave from the top down and the bottom up, learning to weave a thimble holder, etc. And that, too, was a success. (I always feel successful when I pass on the joy of weaving with this stuff...if you haven*t tried it, do! but I warn you, it will want to take over your life)--and I have Bert to thank for this. Thank you, David. I recently attended a trade show and talked to the regional director for Rit dye. I told him how much I liked Rit dye and told him I use it for my basket reed. He immediately loaded me down with colors that I couldn't find in my local area and he told me that Longaberger was their biggest account. Interesting... Collins, Jr." Hi Everyone, I haven't posted for a while, but I have to tell you about my great time at the Seminar East in Fayetteville hosted by the Cape Fear Basketry Association. These ladies know how to do it right! The teachers were great including my teachers Vicki Worrell and Betti Edwards. I came home with two huge baskets. Five of the members in the Deer Creek Basketry Guild made the 6-hour drive to attend. Between the baskets, purchases from the many vendors (got some great stuff) we could not fit one more thing in the car! Lunch was a hot buffet and the hotel did an excellent job on the food. At registration we handed the best goodie bag that I have ever gotten from a seminar including an embroidered hand towel with Fall Seminar East 2002. I met another WW at the seminar .Hi Juanita Carreon! I think I made the largest basket while she was working on the smallest one there. It was nice to meet you! I got home just in time to attend a Nantucket class, taught by the Kohlers from Ft Wayne In. Our treasurer Nancy Brandt handled all the details and got this lovely couple to teach us many styles of Nantucket's using plastic household items as molds. We can't wait to have them back! I made a honey pot basket I'm very proud of and next time plan on making a huge oval taught on a small laundry type mold. If you have an opportunity to take a class from the Kohlers don't pass it up. Next class is a backpack basket being taught by a teacher who is a member of our guild Valerie Poirer. After that I better concentrate on the holidays! Naah rather make a basket LOL. To the ladies of Cape Fear thank you for such a great time. Sissie Happy Birthday!!!!!! Thanks David for letting me rattle on. However, the yearning for home starts to offset the lust for the open road when vacation lasts from May until October. The old stomping grounds get to looking mighty good and a warm fire and a good cup of tea sound like outstanding adventures. Time to experience some down time from the basketry trail. To recollect the meeting of old friends and the making of new ones and most importantly to rehash all the stories that happened along the way. Now most of you know that the road from anywhere to Alaska is a long one. Let me expound on this thought. It takes a "normal" family about one to weeks to travel there. Then of course there is our family. We make the trip in four days. Now speeding is not the cause of our quick and dirty arrival to the Great Land. Nope, I'm talking about persistence. Stick-to-it-edness. The turtle syndrome. Never stop and never veer off your course. Need to sleep? Switch to the passenger seat and let the next driver take over. Your sleeping quarters are already prepared for you in the "recline suite". Your daily toilet is accomplished by dragging some water over your face at the restroom when refueling is required. Don't make the mistake of taking a gander at your reflection in the mirror. After three days on the highway you won't be able to recognize yourself from an Iditarod winner fresh into Nome. Speaking of, the Alaska Bush Basketry Retreat Iditarod is just around the corner. If you are up for an adventure that we have all the arrangements made for you. Check out the newly updated website: www.jchoatebasketry.com for some great photos of our last retreats. You'll be hitting the harness to come north. The 2002 basketry trail may be just a memory but 2003 is just beginning. If your group or business would like to host a class in 2003 give me a hoot and we'll get you scheduled in. Until we meet on the trail... The free pattern is the technique of putting flowers - poinsettias, sunflowers, daffodils and tulips on baskets as a side embellishment. My website has been completely re-worked, making it easier to use. You just push buttons, and magically what you want appears. We have added "Pay Pal" for secure on line ordering. And lots of new baskets for sale and stuff for holidays. You can buy reindeer, sleighs, bells, snowmen and angels. If you find an object you like but no pattern, e-mail me and I will send you the name of the author. Read... and enjoy!
