Patti Hill's husband down in Asheville, NC makes them. They look sorta like a corian Nantucket base on a stick and you can run weavers thru them to train a curve into said weavers which keeps them from buckling and just makes the whole basket experience better when a basket is turned inward (for instance: the top of a squashy basket. You can find him (and Patti, too) at hill2@mindspring.com " Good Luck, Angie The Country Seat http://www.countryseat.com %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Guilds Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2002 15:53:17 -0400 From: "Country Seat-Angie Wagner" To: "Weavers Words David Collins" Hi Joanne, You're welcome! Burns To: Hi Everyone, I'm not sure who asked for this information, but there is a pattern by Susan Vogel called Holiday Pin. You use both 11/16 FR and #0RR to make a small basket. You then fill the basket with a Christmas pick and attach a pin back. Most of my patterns have a stamp on them that tells where I bought it from. This one does not, but gives Susan's name, address and phone number. Her address is Country Baskets, 1365 Dallman Lane, Shawano, WI 54166. Her phone number is listed as 715-524-3093. Hope this helps! David, keep up the good work! I have posted a page on my website that includes a cover photo and the thumbnail images of the individual baskets included in the monthly pages. I thought it might help people visualize this beautiful publication. http://www.basketmakers.com/a/shop/2003nbgcalendar.htm The calendar includes photos of the award winners from the exhibition "Baskets 2002: New Perspectives on an Ancient Tradition" held at Guilford Handcraft Center, Guilford, Connecticut in the spring of 2002. I was referred to you by Pam Feix after asking her by e-mail about a specific basket I am looking for. I am looking for the "elephant" basket, which is sold in specialty baby shops. It is oval in shape and has big, droopy handles. It is used for newborn babies. It has a fitted mattress at the bottom and bumper pads around the inside just like a crib. The importance of this basket is that it makes nap time much easier when you are out visiting friends and family. I am looking for someone who makes these handy baskets so that I can make the bedding for them as gifts. Please let me know if you know of anyone who sells them. I know that Pottery Barn for Kids, and specialty baby shops sell them but with the bedding, I just want the baskets. Thank you for your time. Kim Blakley %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Looking For A Source Sent: Monday, September 09, 2002 10:08 AM From: Marj & Kevin Nelson To: davidc@iei.net David, I have been a lurker for some time, and appreciate all the work you do for us. I recently placed an order on Amazon.com through your site and was pleased to see how easy it was! I have been weaving for about 5 years, but within the last year also learned how to cane. I am looking for a source for "other" things to cane besides the traditional chairs and stools (I was thinking that a tray with a caned base would be really neat). Does anyone know of a place I can find something like that? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Marj Nelson In steamy Ottawa, IL (where we're looking forward to some cooler weather) %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Lake Country Basket Guild Updated Information For Weavers Stain Site Sent: Tuesday, September 10, 2002 9:38 AM From: Dianne Gleixner To: 'davidc@iei.net' Good morning! My name is Dianne Gleixner and I am the vice president of the Lake Country Basket Guild, located in Wisconsin. Thank you so much for listing our guild information on the Weavers Stain web site. I would like you to please review the information you have posted and make the necessary corrections, as some of our information has recently changed. Here is the current information about our guild, meeting dates, and annual dues. Lake Country Basket Guild meets the second Tuesday of each month (except August) from 6:30pm to 9:30pm in the lobby of the Service building (S) at WCTC in Pewaukee, WI. Annual dues of $15.00 for membership from January through December. For more information, please contact Dianne Gleixner, 4155 N. 137th Street, Brookfield, WI 53005, (262) 790-9790 Please remove any e-mail address you may have listed. Some are outdated, but I mostly want to cut down on the amount of spam that I've been getting lately. Also, if you have events listed on the site, please add information regarding Basket Fest 2003. Lake Country Basket Guild holds our annual Basket Fest during the first weekend in May each year. (May 2, 3, 4, 2003) We bring in instructors from all over the country for a 3-day weekend of basket weaving classes, along with a Basket Boutique (vending area), silent auction, and Saturday night "social hour". You must be a member of the guild to register for Basket Fest. Brochures will be sent to all current members in mid-December, and these members will be eligible for the first round of registrations. Anyone joining after the first round will be allowed to register for classes not already filled. For information about Basket Fest, please contact Dianne Gleixner (same info as above). Please look over what you have and make sure it's current with what I've listed above. Please let me know if you have any questions. Again, thank you for providing a little publicity for our guild. It's much appreciated! Dianne Gleixner VP - Lake Country Basket Guild %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Brown Ash Splint Sent: Tuesday, September 10, 2002 12:34 PM From: To: Hi Fellow Weavers, First, I'd like to thank all of our customers that responded to us with that excellent feedback on our new splint. It sure makes us feel good that you think as highly of our new product as we do and we appreciate all the glowing praise and kind words. Second, I'd like to let you all know that our new brown ash staves are now in stock for Nantucket baskets. They are the same thickness as our oak and cherry staves and work beautifully in our tapered slot bases. We carry 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" widths in lengths of 16", 20" and 24" packages. A special mention must go to an anonymous customer that is now making a 9" purse with our new staves and 1/32" brown ash weavers. This is going to be a beauty and I commend her for her skill and patience. If you are looking for a new "look" for your Nantucket's, give this beautiful brown ash a try. The inventive ideas I've seen lately for this product are really stunning on a Nantucket of any size or shape.
