Thanks David for all that you have done and for keeping this going!! Can someone email me privately about the company that I can get the environmentally safe dyes? I was searching on the web but haven't found what I'm looking for. My rit dye still bleeds a lot when I'm soaking it even though I'm using salt in the rinse water. I would like to try the basket dye that I read in past postings. I believe it started with a "P". Anyway that's ahead of time for this info... I have been working on gourds for several shows and I want to try some new ideas. It's hard to work on gourds and have a full time job. It sure would be nice to just weave and do gourds for a living... I'm sure a lot of you that work also would like to do the very same thing. I can just keep dreaming...!!! The Texas Gourd Society is hosting another Texas Gourd Show Nov. 3rd in Austin, Texas at the Travis Co. Expo Center. We are having classes also on Friday, Nov. 2nd at the Drury Inn. If anyone is interested they can email me and I will send them the details. (rowena@taz.tamu.edu). Happy Weaving to all!! Most printer cart. can also be purchased at Sams Club for a good price. Normally you get two for the same price as one. I go through a lot of copies on my printer/copier and have found they have the best price. You can try the refill method, but it is really not worth it to me. Hope this helps! Let me know if you want the place in California to order from. I have someone that would like to have a laundry basket made and is there anything I can "paint" the inside of the basket with so it will be a little more water proof. Thank you for your help. Jay Last - do we have a lot of WW readers going to Michigan at the end of the month? %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Re: [weaverswords] "Weavers Words" V. 5 I. 24 Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 12:11:21 EDT From: PBWEAVE@aol.com To: weaverswords-owner@yahoogroups.com Regarding printers. I too have the HP 712C. It served all my needs until I bought a scanner. I use my printer and scanner almost daily. Be sure your printer can print at the highest resolution of the photos saved by the scanner. It poses a small problem but if I wanted to sell a calendar of my basket photos or postcards, I would not be able to print at the best quality I want. So for commercial purposes, upgrade to a higher HP. I also use refills for the black cartridges. Be very careful but it is easy to do. So, this is a reminder to anyone, wanting to attend the WVBA Weave-in who might have set their registration aside to stay glued to the TV as I did. Don't forget to send it in this week. It is so hard to get back into the swing of things when something this tragic happens. When I go out and overhear other people talking this is the only thing they are talking about and will be talking about for years to come. My heart goes out to all who lost their lives and to the families involved and I am thankful Dave has provided us with a way to communicate with each other and keep each other informed of the things going on in our lives. Before I became involved in the WVBA I was mainly a lurker, but enjoyed reading what each of you were doing and what you were involved in. Thanks Dave. The West Virginia Weave-in, November 9-11, 2001. It will be at the Holiday Inn in Weirton, WV. Call the Holiday Inn at 304-723-5522 for room reservations and be sure and tell them you are with the WVBA. For anyone interested in attending but who is not a member please e-mail Shireene Matheny at: smatheny1@citynet.net. She will be able to get registration information out to you. The deadline to register is September 28, 2001. In light of everything that has happen recently I'm sure she will allow for that in reference to the deadline. If you cannot get in touch with her e-mail me at: SLTARAWOOD@aol.com Registration for the Weave-in is $20.00 for members and $30.00 for nonmembers. The weekend will include buffet meals at $8.55 for each meal. Saturday night's dinner will be paid for by the WVBA so there will be no charge for Weave-in participants. If you are bringing a guest not registered for the convention the cost of their dinner will be $11.69. You need to send the cost of any meals along with your registration. If you wish to participate in the basket swap on Saturday night don't forget to bring a basket. Registration will begin at 3pm on Friday, November 9th. Participants are allowed to bring their favorite cookies to share for the hospitality table. Coffee, hot tea and water will be served through out the day. We will have a raffle, door prizes and goodie bags. Saturday will be open to visitors. We have a room of vendors lined up and will have a teacher market place. Lena DeGuire - Try putting the word - flag - in the search box of our on-line catalog. 5 patterns will come up and an issue of Just Patterns. JC - This is the method that works best for me (I'm sure that you will hear quite a few different methods). I put the walnuts (hull and all - just as I pick them off the ground) into a pair of pantyhose; tie a knot at the top of the walnuts. Place into water and boil until color desired. Remove pantyhose and hang outside to dry (don't let it touch anything important, it will stain). Let stain cool and place into plastic container with a lid (I use the heavy duty plastic litter containers, the 28 pound ones, they look like a round or square bucket). I can dip most baskets right into the container and hang above it to let the excess drain back. Every now and then I dip a strainer into the stain to get any chunks or hairs left behind. The stain has a slight odor; it never smells bad and never gets moldy. Angie in PA, wishing I was outside to enjoy the last warm, beautiful day before the cold front hits tomorrow. I was afraid it was gone. I did several searches and finally thought to use Yahoo! Thank heavens, Weaver's Words is still here. It seems I missed quite a storm. I'm a lurker, too, but I wanted to make sure that you know how much we appreciate you, David. I appreciate the information on providing help in light of recent horrible events. We all want to help and most of us appreciate the good suggestions. On a light note, I want to share a silly poem my brother wrote for me. Please note that my brother has, as far as I know, never smoked anything, even a Marlboro. He told me it exploded full-blown into his head while on his way to work... and that he wrote it with the utmost affection. Basket Making Sister I have a crazy sister. She makes baskets night and day. The family tries to talk to her. We don't know what to say. It's just like an addiction to heroin or pot. If she had a bag of grass, she'd make a basket on the spot. She'd whip it into a bird's nest and adorn it with a sash. She'd find a disorganized hippie and sell it for some cash. She makes them out of bamboo, willow shoots and reeds. I tried to take her fishing but she started picking weeds. There are baskets in her bedroom, bathroom and her kitchen. I don't know how she lives there, but Martha Stewart says it's b...'n. I guess it's fairly harmless, this basket fetish thing. Maybe she'll start a dynasty like Landry or maybe like Ming. Then, maybe she'll go on Oprah and mention her handsome brothers. Maybe she'll make a million bucks and hide it at our Mother's. Maybe I'm the one that's nuts and maybe I'm just joking... Maybe I found the bird's nest basket and I'm rhyming while I'm smoking. Thank you, David, for being such a wonderful enabler of our basket making addiction! From: Violinart1@aol.com To: davidc@iei.net Sent: Monday, October 08, 2001 1:58 PM Basket Class has added a new free pattern on its website. The basket is called the Bakery Basket and is a reproduction of a basket used in the 1950s to carry hot bread from the bakers' ovens to the shelves in the store. It is a very large, very sturdy basket, and is gorgeous! The pattern was contributed by Phyllis Scarbrough for our free patterns page. The handles are also made available by Basket Class. We hope you enjoy the free patterns, and please let us know what you think of them! I don't even know the "real" name for it as my version came from Sweden somehow - so I've always called it Swedish stars. Here's the description. Using flexible birch bark, or quilling paper or ribbon and using (I think) 4 pieces folded in 1/2 - you fold and insert ends to make a multi pointed star. Along the way you do the prescribed folds and tuck first on the up side and then switch so the upside down parts are right side up. I'm sure this is familiar to many, but I need a "name" so I can order a pattern Quick!
