Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 21:38:15 -0500 From: "Carol Antrim" To: David, thank you so much for this solution. Either my ISP or my forwarder has been filtering Weavers Word on and off for quite some time so have had to read online and must admit, I have been lax at times. And yet I hated being out of the loop, too. But I already belong to Yahoo groups so know I can get these messages...It will be wonderful to get Weavers Words regularly in my email again...Have missed you all. Thanks again, David, you're the greatest! Basketsful of smiles, Carol Carol Antrim http://cantrimbaskets.com/ %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: IBA Convention Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 08:56:37 -0500 From: "helton" To: I hope everyone will consider attending the IBA Convention next year the first weekend in May. It was very well organized and I didn't hear any complaints. We had a lot of new comers this year and everyone said they felt very welcome. Congratulations and thank you to all those hard working coordinators and volunteers who helped make this convention a huge success. Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 23:07:55 -0500 From: "elaine bidstrup" To: "david collins weavers words" David and all WWers, I was beginning to think I had been lost in cyber-space! I have 138 unread e- messages, but every time I open my e-mail I anxiously look for WW, and was terribly upset when I didn't get one from this great group! Again, David, thanks for all you do! Elaine %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: aloha! Wow, David, thanks for all your hard work and for keeping WW alive and kicking. Have to tell you about our last door prize at our guild meeting. Joanne brought in a huge box and wouldn*t let anyone see what they were buying tickets for..and we sold over $25 worth of tickets! When the winner (no, it wasn*t me, darn it) opened the box, there was a small gold foil box nestled within and when she opened that box, she found a beautiful Irish waxed linen pouch adorned with lovely beads...the non-winners were crushed! What a great job Joanne did on that sweet treasure. We have also been asked to write a review of the NC convention for BASKET BITS and we*re working on that. Speaking of convention, a bit of advice for anyone attending for the first time: Joanne and I both had problems with a vendor. Joanne bought a kit for a basket and when she opened it (back in Hawaii) she found it was nowhere near complete--all the weavers were missing. The same vendor told me she only sold kits and not separate patterns, so I bought several kits--and the next night at Teacher*s Marketplace, she was indeed selling only the patterns! We now know a.) don*t buy patterns until after Teacher*s Marketplace and b) check kits before the convention is over. We sometimes get into the mindset that sister crafters are going to be honest with us.... And speaking of patterns...I bought a lot (so many I bought a second bag for a carryon) and found, once I got home, mistakes on some. One had me cut way too many pieces of round reed to make a lid rim and one listed stuff in the supply list that is never mentioned in the pattern--and stuff mentioned in the pattern wasn*t on the supply list. I paid $5 for one of these patterns...So, if you are a pattern writer, please, please have someone test your pattern or at least have some one proof read it. And about attending classes and not finishing the basket--I didn*t mind at all. I went for the experience and to gain a new skill or two--and to work with different mediums. And a good teacher will make sure you can finish it without her...and I did. Perhaps once I move back to the mainland and have access to other conventions and classes, I might feel differently, but for now, I*m grateful for just the experience of learning something new. And one more thing--my swap basket (from the wonderful Lynda Crowe) is the neatest piece of work I*ve seen in ages. It is a huge market on a 14 x 10 rectangle hoop and she space dyed reed herself to accent it. It holds everything! I*ve carried it to classes (where everyone wants one of their own), to painting guild loaded with food and to basket guild loaded with reed, bases and so on. It is so functional--my favorite sort of basket! Thanks, Lynda--and thanks for all the neat goodies inside! Sorry this is so long.... aloha nui loa, Lois Honolulu %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Subject: Pictures of classes at East Troy Basketry Company Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 23:21:21 EDT From: Wickrwoman@aol.com To: davidc@iei.net Well, I finally got all the photos developed and scanned from teaching at East Troy Basketry Company in Wisconsin in March/April, so I posted a few to the website.
