MAIL YOUR OLD KEYS We are looking for national exposure for a young man named Matthew Morgan. This young man is 5 years old and is battling leukemia. Matthew has a fascination for keys and key chains. He uses these keys to help get through his chemo. We started what was to be a small collection of keys and this has grown into our whole town rallying behind this young man to try and create a world record for the largest key collection. Since we had Jill's patterns we decided not to sell the authorized photocopies of Bobi Marshall Harris's book. We're still hoping that it will be back in print in the book form. I really enjoyed the Indiana Convention. I gave a lecture on glass beading-the number one accent to baskets now. Then I continued by demonstrating how glass beads are made using a "hot-head" flame torch. Yes, I left the Hotel standing and many of you are now appreciating the time and cost involved with the purchase of these glass beads. I was also vending in the Ballroom with Just Patterns Magazine. So great to meet my Subscribers and add others to the mailing list. Plus, I was able to meet many of you-even handed out some red ribbons to members of the Weaver's Words Family. So nice to be able to greet each other this way! I use lots of close pins, but I let the snowflake dry completely before I glue the tips together... this way the ash, cherry, or reed is "set" into position. I then just have to spread the tips apart a bit, a use a small amount of Insta-Cure glue. You can get this glue at Woodworker's Warehouse. Don't use too much, though, if you want to dye or stain the snowflake... the glue doesn't take the stain. Hope that helps! Found that if I dampened, shaped them and held them together with clothespins until they dried, then glued them and used the clothespins again, it worked better. Dues are $15.00 a year and may be sent to GBA, 1785 Azalea Springs Trail, Roswell, GA 30075. Date: 11 Apr 2000 18:02:26 -0000 From: "J. Choate Basketry List" To: List Member J. Choate Basketry List - http://www.corecom.net/~choatepp A snow-go to most Alaskans is a snow machine but here of late it's a chant mumbled by most of the population located in Talkeetna. The white stuff has finally decided to stop descending from the heavens but the mass of snow mountains reside as a testimony to the power of winter. The dogs are nestled on top of their boxes basking in the glow of old Sol and seem to know that the season of their work is over. Not so for the coach of the team however. Our busy season is just beginning. We're finalizing our plans for the summer road trip totheLower-48, making baskets, shipping them out, flying around the country to teach and finishing Jennah's schooling. I think that should be enough to keep us busy until the snow flies again. If you'd like to catch up with us on the trail please check out the tour schedule at www.jchoatebasketry.com. There is still an opportunity to experience the splendor of Alaska next March. The Alaska Bush Basketry Retreat has filled quickly but there area few spaces left. If the adventure of Alaska speaks to you this is the time to answer. Until we meet on the road..... She is a new -- and very talented -- weaver. She embellished the Old Crow Tote with coffee dyed accent wearers and a ceramic dove and leaf embellishment. Georgia used bay seagrass to twine the base & entwine the handle too. I thrilled to add this to my collection. My basket goes Thursday to nearby Massachusetts.
