The Sorceress Kayess then told him how when the world began all people were divided by the Great Demon, and the only hope he had to get the power he needed to defeat the Nameless was to re-unite himself with his Other Selves. And it might not just be with one Other, but two, or three, or four, or more. It depended on how much his distant ancestors angered the Original Demon to divide them up at the beginning of time. These many selves may not only be in other minds, but some may even be in one's own mind, scuffling together all one's life, betraying the promise of greatness given every human, were all his minds one.

Though Kayess herself didn't have the power to do at one stroke his great task, she said a spell-poem of great power. It would let him find a way of his own to his own power so he could gather the strength and magic to face down the Nameless, and she made the spell so that he must kiss her magic rainbow lips, which would follow him wherever he would then go, and help him.

When this electric charm
milds your mind mine,
lathes damned demands hollow,
instants magically incinerating,

charmed electric,
I fall to your flame,
but must in marvel inquire,
past the bursts
of flowered fire falling past,
what this portends for the end,

since I still
must face down the Nameless.
