"The Virgin Mary Carving"

As many of you may know by now....I'm a Maritime Ship Carver. Specializing in Ships' Figureheads. Carving only pieces of a nautical nature. Not in religious figures or icons of any description.

Over a year and a half ago, I was compelled to carve this statue of the Madonna. I had a lot of other work to complete as well, but the Virgin Mary had to be carved??

Please don't enquire why, this directive was extremely forceful.

The circumstances surrounding this rather mystifying directive is complicated and the story is long. Too long....

The short of it is, that I had to complete her by the year 2004 (which I did today (1/1/2004...just finished in my workshop).

Needless to say this solid wood carving of the virgin is for sale....to whom or which establishment, I have no idea.

The dimensions of the carving are..........

Height 5' 4" (158cm)...Width 34" (87cm)....Depth 1' 5" (42cm) (from hands to back of drapery). The statue is quite heavy Approx. 110kgs.

The Madonna is painted in the traditional colours and is sealed and protected against any changes in temperature. She is meant to be housed indoors and should last for many hundreds of years.

She is now standing on a gold base of 2".

For those seriously interested in purchasing this carving, I will gladly relate the complete story.....although it's somewhat paranormal.

This carving was not commissioned by anyone or any organization at the time I started carving.

I'm sure it was meant for someone, somebody, or some organization or church in great need of her.

Please....ONLY serious enquiries.Thanks - Martin Jeffery
