Why?

Why is the grass green?
The sun bright? The sky blue?
Why am I me?
And why are you, you?
What makes the sun rise?
And, furthermore, set?
If none were around,
would a falling tree make a sound?
What causes evil
in the hearts of good men?
Why is there war?
and what's so mighty about the pen?
I wonder what makes
the universe run.
I'll try to answer these questions,
one by one.
But in the meantime,
I'm willing to beg,
tell me what came first -
the chicken or the egg?
