Well this sries was very nice, but a little weird. In Robotech the tied many characters that had nothing to do with Macross to the Macross series. Well we all know this, and frankly, who cares. After all the series does infact deal with the macross universe, it's just differant people, it still fits the timeline and the same opponents. Well anyway, this in Robotech, is known as the third saga. The New Generation. Equipment from Robotech II, which was to tie the series together, was very present for the returning RDF forces. Since many of the hover tanks and valkyries were destroyed or confiscated from the humans, many interesting concepts come into play. In the American Version, Rick hunter had sent a third of his command back to Earth when he heard the Robotech Masters were on their way to retake the protoculture matrix. The invid were posing a very great threat however. Well due to time gaps and etc, the humans arrived in two waves back at earth, the end of the Second Robotech War, and after the third. The american version was well edited and a classic, it gave way to the 1985 movie, which was a universal hit across countries, and almost unheard of. Which is odd, many people compleatley forgot about this movement, and have almost forgotten about the Akira hype.
I also think, this was the series tat inspired som many features in many animes of the Sci-Fi genres. Such as Bubblegum Chrisis. Oh well.... anyway. I really won't bother much with this saga, considering there is just a plethora of info out there and It's the least familliar with my memories.
Due to the events in the Second robotech War, the Invid became aware of Earth, at least the Queen of the species did. She left her mate for Earth. Since the Humans were recovering from the Suicidal efforts of the Masters, they just couldn't fight the heavily armored and vicous Invid. Most of Humanity once again was wiped out and left in rubble. The re-occuring joke in this series, lol.
The loss of the third war, left the humans and remaining Zenntradi not much to work with, they didn't even have hover equipment anymore. So, most of the rebel humans built exo-skeletons, and this is why Exo-Squad came to be,(great show), it was inspired by the Destroids and the Power Armors of the final chapter. So for a brief time Exo-Squad was selling new Robotech toys and etc... Anyway, the rebels built multi-purpose motorcycles that couldn't hover like a generation before. However, they were maxed out with weponary, nitros, radios, and of course the ability to change shape over the rider. It would form a power armor on a whim over the rider, giving him many tricks. Very fast getaway and allowed for precise hit and run operations.
Of course there were the Valkyries and such that the Admiral brought back, including the Alpha and Beta fighters. The goal was to rid Earth of its invaders, by any means possiable. In the American version, this would be done by Destroying the Invid mother brain(yeah just like in Metroid, its almost the damn same *wonders* cough, ripoff, cough)in a fortress code named Reflex Point. The commander, almost sole survivour of the fold into Earth's space, led a group of survivours and rebels to do such task. With hatred for the Invid at the loss of his Fiancee`, he wouldn't stop at all costs till he accomplished his goal.
The quality of animation would sort of shift around, from cinema to very gritty. All in all it was a cool Series and one that I shall not forget. there has even been a Star Craft mod that uses the music and characters from Mospeda to make a fun conversion that I have played, lol.
