"California vocalist Donald Rubinstein offers a cure for normalcy with his CD Time Again (Rhombus Records). As proof he enlists the ingenious king of abnormal guitar stylings, Bill Frisell. Rubinstein's resume includes a handful of solo CDs, soundtracks and commissions from members of the Boston Symphony and New York Philharmonic orchestras. He's also received praise from the Los Angeles Times ("beautiful tunes") and John Densmore, former drummer of The Doors ("a composer and songwriter of stellar proportions"). Rubinstein's and Frisell's wild ride starts with "Fingers" (featured), on which the vocalist also contributes keyboards. Rubinstein's lyrics are just as wild: "Tentacles of dread and fate/Hold me down while posters wait/To march into your brain and break/Suck the air right from your plate."
