Changes 6--When You Least Expect It

Jack glanced at the clock on the wall. Three hours, it had only been three hours since 'the incident' in his office had occured, it seemed longer. It seemed as though time had stopped, and he had temporarily travel to a part of his brain that couldnt be effected by the outside world, couldnt be effected by the alien, Pat'sk, in his head. Couldn't be effected by the conversation that was now going on in front of him.

He wiped his brow with the back of his hand and then stared at the thin layer of sweat that glinsened on his skin.

He had a head ache, and all he wanted to do was go home and drink himself into a stupor..Maybe the alcohol could kill the bastard in his head...maybe he could drink so much that his hangover would be so bad he would die from the pain...either way it would be an improvement.

He stared around the conference room, watching the mouths around him move but not hearing them. He could only hear the rushing of his blood in his body, the vibrations of the air conditioner dispensing cool air into the room and the ticking of the clock on the wall.

The alien in side of his was quiet, had been for some time. He knew he was still there, though. He could still feel him moving inside of his body, feel him planning, thinking of a way to win his war. Thinking of a way to complete his mission for his Goddess, Bastet.

Jack could feel Pat'sk growing stronger inside of his, taking his body over inch by inch. He knew that in only a few more days PAt'sk would have complete control, but for now Pat'sk was quiet and it was enough for him to forget...almost...

He sighed, tapping his fingers on the table when he heard his name called and his head shot up.

Janet was still talking, still explaining the evidents that had happened since he got back, explaining the test results. Explaining Major Penk's death, and explaining how he gave birth to an alien child.

Jack heard but didnt listen, he kept looking over at Daniel. The anthropologist was quiet for the first time in a debriefing. He sat stock still in his chair and took deep breaths, trying not to met Jack's eyes.

Jack kept staring willing for Daniel to look his way and finally the blue orbs turned his way and he cursed under his breath. Pain and confusion was shown in his eyes and his brow crinckled in dispair as he looked away and glanced down at the floor.

During the rest of the meeting he caught a few key points, things like:

"Well, the test results said he was pregnant and he gave birth, but he gave it through the mouth,...blah blah blah"

'I could have told them that!'

"Within a few days Jack will have lost all power over his body"

'Thanks for the vote of confidence, Doc!'

"We don't know what it is...but it is some type of Gou'ald and it is apparently a sla...", Janet's voice cut off as Teal'c continued in his usual monotone.

"A servant to Bastet..On Chu'lak we often conversed with her, her host was dieing. She needs an appropriate host to stay alive."

'great....just peachy.'

"You know about this?" , Sam asked calmly

'doesn't he always? Master of information about the boring yet important, thats our Teal'c', Jack thought.

"Yes, She is not like most Gou'ald. she needs certain elements to stay alive. Cat's have these elements but she needs to be human inorder to have powers."

Sam interrupted, intrigued by the new information, "So Pat'sk's job is to create these half cat half human, beings?"

Teal'c nodded and then the room grew quiet once again

After a few more moments Janet and General Hammond made some more comments about doing more tests and Jack nodded.

Finally the meeting was called to a close and just as he was about to rush out the door, Daniel beat him to it, rushing past everyone and down the hall.

Jack sighed, following him.

*****************************

He jogged until he was walking beside Daniel and even then he had to walk quickly in order to keep up with the anthropologist.

"Hey, Danny...why the rush?"

Daniel shook his head dismissively and kept walking.

"Danny?"

"No..", it was whispered more than spoken aloud but was still heard.

"No? No what?"

"No, dont feel like you have to hang out with me to find out if I'm ok...You did it because you had to..the alien made you. I understand, end of story.."

Jack stood there, frozen as Daniel kept walking to his office.

After a moment Jack moved and caught up with Daniel, "no..I mean ya he did make me do it but...", Danny began to walk faster, "Danny!"

'What is it I'm trying to say....Why cant I talk?'

Daniel walked into his office and began to close the door and Jack jumped knowing it could be his last chance. He stopped the door with his hand and looked into the shocked eyes of his friend, words falling from his lips before he knew what he was going to say.

His lips moved of their own accord, "Danny, I love you...", Jack's face scrunched up in confusion, 'Thats not what I mean...is it?'

Daniel's eyes widened as JAck began to lean in and finally their lips met in a tender kiss.

Daniel's eyes widened further and he grabbed onto the door to save himself from falling from the shock.
