Personnel Information

Pope Air Force Base Personnel and Families
  Are you prepared?

During the hurricane season, you should be able to better prepare yourself for when a hurricane comes your way. Due to the nature of the hurricanes and the warning systems available, you will normally have plenty of time to prepare for the storm's arrival.

DO NOT wait until the last minute to prepare for the storm's arrival.

Active duty personnel may be recalled to prepare their work area for the hurricane. Base information may be received from the 43rd Airlift Wing Public Affairs Office Straight Talk Center at (910) 394-1724 or the Fort Bragg Community Access Channel 7 if residing on either installation. Personnel and family members residing off base are encouraged to tune into local radio stations and television broadcasts if available.

Instructions will be relayed to these sources concerning conditions and returning to the work area. However, the primary source of information for personnel is their immediate supervisor. After the storm, bear in mind that the danger does not end with the storm.

Do not return to base until it is deemed safe by authorities. Lives can be lost if basic safety is not taken into consideration.

Shelter Locations:

The disbursement point for people seeking shelter at Pope AFB is the fitness center. Once at the fitness center, people will be sent (via a base supplied bus) to one of the four shelters on base:

Wing Headquarters Basement
Support Group Headquarters Basement
Military Personnel Flight Basement
