Pope Park, at the corner of Manchester and Reilly streets, officially opened with all new playground and picnic equipment at 11 a.m. June 8.
The new, $89,700 playground equipment, was a Year of the Family initiative.
The equipment includes two playground modular units, one for children 5 to 12 and one for children 2 to 5; three freestanding units including a Jumbo Flyer, Dinosaur Saddlemate and Wum Climber; and one six-position swing set with two enclosed toddler seats and four belt seats.
To ensure user safety, the playground is enclosed by a timber border and the safety surface is the FIBAR System 300, a manufactured wood fiber, according to the staff summary sheet.
The equipment was manufactured by GameTime from Fort Payne, Ala., and was installed by Triad Properties from Greensboro. Contracting was accomplished by Cunningham Associates of Charlotte.
In addition to new playground equipment, the park received $35,300 worth of new picnic tables, park benches and grills. This was also a YOFAM initiative. (Courtesy of the 43rd Services Squadron) .
