Last Wish is a love story set against the post-industrial backdrop of Buffalo, NY. Film student Moses Frey is still reeling from the sudden breakup with his longtime girlfriend. As his relationship with a mysterious new girl grows more serious, Moses is led back to his sister and their fragmented family. There the eerie parallels between his new life and chaotic childhood force Moses to confront old fears and hatreds, learning there are limits to what even the best intentions can achieve.
The story was born around 1994 as an idea for a video about a guy who returns to his hometown to commit a crime, running afoul of his estranged family in the process. It sat half-baked for several years, intended to be more-or-less a comic book adaptation of the video idea. About two years ago, the crime stuff was ejected (one early draft began with the robbery of...a comic book store!) and the notion of this guy wondering if he was becoming something he'd hated all his life came to the fore. The title worked better than ever. You can see art from the early days of Last Wish in the Last Wishes That Might Have Been gallery.
