Rose Embroidery

Step by step notes by Kay Dee

The roses embroidered on the cape, headband, and corset are made by overlapping a satin stitch to make a 5
sided (pentagon) rose. There is an inner pentagon and an outer pentagon that build upon one another to give the rose a raised
look. I drew a pentagon shape on my fabric in pink ink to use as a guide.

STEP 1
Create a square using satin stitching. (I used 2 strands of floss in my needle)

STEP 2
Begin making the first side of your pentagon using satin stitch (about 3 stitches) and overlapping part of the inner square..

STEP 3
Make the second side of your pentagon, overlapping half of your first side.

STEP 4
Continue to use the satin stitch to create the third side of your pentagon shape.

STEP 5
Satin stitch fourth side of pentagon shape.

STEP 6
Complete inner pentagon shape by stitching fifth side of the pentagon.

STEP 7
Make the first side of the outer pentagon shape, overlapping the inner pentagon.

STEP 8
Use the satin stitch to build up the second side of the outer pentagon - about 4 stitches.

STEP 9
Third side of pentagon

STEP 10
Fourth side of pentagon

STEP 11
Fifth and final side of pentagon.
