Pleats were made at the raw edges of the shoulders and along the back (Pleats at shoulders are circled). The raw edges of the neckline were then covered by a narrow casing to fit comfortably around the shoulders without use of elastic or cording. In the photo above you can see the casing has been pinned to the raw edge before sewing.
