Mermaid
(from Noah’s Ark)

< Previous----Next>

This mermaid is inspired by an illustration of Noah and the art from the Nuremberg Bible of 1483. In addition to a seal and the tops of some mountains and castles, there are two mer-people swimming in the flood waters. The merman looks longingly at the ark while the mermaid arranges her hair and admires her image in a hand mirror. Perhaps instead of death drowning, God has decided to punish this woman’s vanity by turning her into a mermaid. Made from glazed red earthenware clay, the back of this limited edition piece displays the artist's signature stamp and the LQP chop mark. Left 2" high, right 1 3/4".
