The End for the Band...

The band were on the verge of making it to the big time. They had a potential cross-over single coming out : 'the Prince and Princess of Wales love Sheep', that they hoped would be so offensive it would get banned, a sure fire way of getting to number-one in those days. Unfortunately Mary Whitehouse was on holiday at the time. The lyrics (graphic depictions of sexual acts between the Royal couple and livestock) were sung by MC Mumbles rendering them unintelligible. Most people thought it was a tribute to the newly-wed couples great charity work with animals, and Mike Reed loved it. This unlikely turn of events meant that the band were starting to get TV exposure. The band were due to appear on Blue Peter in a few weeks, and there first live TV appearance was due to be on Sandi Tokvigs 'Number 73' show. Problems with the bands had gone to far though, and Grand-Master Green Flash walked out of the first rehearsal taking Abdul, Reckless Jake, MC Mumbles, and the Scouser with him.

Spondulics was furious, and tried to sue them, for earnings he would have earned once they had made the big-time. The rest of the band counter sued, and the band were caught up in messy legal proceedings for most of 1983. Spondulics eventually won, winning 3 million dollars from the rest of the band, money they didn't have. No one was allowed to keep the band name, and since they were in desperate need of the Money, Flash, and the breakaway faction formed the hip-hop collective Grand-Master Green-Flash and the spurious 5 (there was only 4 of them).

They were moderately successful in the early british hip-hop scene, proving that white, british men could rap. They never produced any singles, but played at parties, and toured extensively. The even played California, influencing the young Beastie Boys. In a recent Spin Magazine interview with them Ad Rock says:

"oh yeah, me and Mike (D) were at this street party once, and we saw these 4 white guys rapping. They were this British band, Grand-Master Green-Flash or somethin. The guy on turntables was only playing samples from a Linguaphone Beginners Icelandic record. Also, one of the rappers was incomprehensible and the others, clearly fucked on drugs, were so bad that me and Mike said to each other anyone could do better than these guys, if they can make a money out of it, we could make a fortune."

Eventually the band split, due to lack of success, and The Scousers crack habit getting out of control. The ^{Chicks With Dicks dream} was finally over. And although the band was no more, and most of the band-members were washed up, or disappeared, their spirit lives on in the hearts of their fans.
