Entrelac Shrugs
Mood:  bright

The Orange and Green Varigated Jacket I call Sheri's Meeting of the Ducks and Beavers Bomber Jacket.  It's Entrelac on the front and back and back with ribbing along the front edges and around the neck.  There are no buttons but to fasten the front  used the leaves off a neckerchief pattern and pull one through the other.

More Entrelac Shrugs
Mood:  chillin'
Topic: Hand Knitting

This Shrug I made in a variety of yarns for my dear friend and mentor Gloria.  I had to get it done quickly and so the back and sleeves are machine knit on the Brother 940.

I'm making sweaters and caps for these little bears I found at our local Dollar Store.  Also making some Fingerless mitts shown in lap of gold bear in the blues and pinks for girls 8 to 9 years old.

Got the ideas from some of these places:  The book:  Planet of the Dolls by Arlene Wallin and Margo Nordstrom.  Another book:  Doll Patch Clothes by Linda Williams, Country Knitting of Mainend and another book:  Nicely Knit Dolls by Mary Louise Norman.

You can find some free patterns here:  http://www.needlesofsteel.org.uk/

Under Toys on the left side of the page.  Fingerless mitts also here under:  Mittens and gloves.

For the little girls mitts I used sock yarn on the 940, tension 4.  I cast on 35-0-35 and knit 30 rows and ribbed up for cuff then I knit to row 80 and loosely binded off.  Sewed up side leaving opening for thumb about 1 inch or so from top and then 1/2 inch hem on top.  Could leave rolled edge if desired.

Swan Socks
Mood:  cool
Topic: machine knitting

I purchased the book Swan Sock -  Sock without a Name by Lucy M. Desgrey.

You can find out more on the Raverly website here:  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/swan-sock---sock-without-a-name

There are several sew as you go sock patterns out there for machine knitters.  I liked this one.  The book is very well written and nice pictures too.

More Easter Toys
Mood:  happy
Topic: machine knitting

This is a Diva Easter Bunny from a most adorable pattern created by Roz and offered on her blog.  Follow the link and feast your eyes on her other creations as well.   http://rozspot.blogspot.com/  The easter bunny should be found under easter bunny pattern.  I did the ears different on my Diva but I love the way the little dress came out and the arms and legs are soooooooo cute.  Thanks so much Roz!

Here is how I do bunny ears on the SK 700 at tension 4:
I ewrap cast on 20 needles and for these ears I knit 15 rows but  most of my bunny ears I do 20 rows.  Then I put carriage on partial knit and pull out the two end needles.  Knit one row then put one needle out of work carriage side  every pass or row until there are two needles left.  Then you knit one row and put one needle back into work opposite carriage side every pass or row until you get to the last two end needles.  Take carriage off partial knit and knit 15 rows or if your initial rows were 20 knit 20 rows.  If you want the base of the ears gathered you can scrap off with double eyed needle otherwise BO normally.  Sew up sides and can stuff inside ears or leave unstuffed.  Can needle felt contrasting color into middle of ear if desired or sew in some pink felt.

Machine Knit Easter Toys
Mood:  mischievious
Topic: machine knitting

I wanted to knit up some easter toys for a toddler's easter basket and this is what happened.  For the blue boy doll I used the free patterns from Clearwater Knits.com at this link:

 http://www.clearwaterknits.com/freepats/sockdoll.html

For the cavy and the bunny I transcribed some patterns from a really neat handknit book by:  Amy Gaines, called:  Little Knitted Creatures.  This is a really precious book.

Some other hand knitted free easter toy patterns are on All Free Knitting.com :

Visor Caps
Mood:  hug me
Topic: machine knitting

I am really having a lot of fun knitting up these cute visor caps on the SK700.  I am using a pattern found in the book:  Knitting from Head to Toe, published by Country Knitting of Maine.  I found a copy on Ebay and it is full of really neat patterns.

This is my version:
Standard gauge  tension 7 with two strands each of 2/24
CO 84left and 84 right
Knit 160 R and hang hem
Knit one row and then BO with the double eye needle and pull up as tight a circle as you can but will still be about the size of a 50 cent piece.    When you place the pom pom it will cinch up the hole nicely.
Then sew up the back with matress or any preferable stitch.
Then go to other end of cap which is the folded edge and
hang thirty stitches in center front for brim.   The sewn up seam will be in center back of head.
Then I knit 35 rows to cover plastic brim.
Then I cut a thin piece of plastic like from a bleach or milk jug (should be able to find brim templates on the web)
I center my brim and pin to center front of cap.  Then I start sewing up from each side.  I use two needles for this.  One at each end so that when I head towards the center of cap the gathering will be equal.
That's it.
