J.A.C.T. Classical Civilisation and Ancient History Summer School |
Aims
The Summer School at Repton provides students with the opportunity to:
- learn about spects of the Ancient World they have not previously studied
- consolidate their knowledge of topics they have already studied
- learn the rudiments of a classical language
- prepare extracts of classical texts for performance
- work with students from different backgrounds with a shared interest in the Ancient World
ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES
All students are given accommodation in boarding-houses, which are supervised at night by course tutors. Rooms have a maximum of 4 beds, and there are a number of single rooms available. Both boarding-houses have common rooms (with television), and a kitchen where students can make their own drinks. Recreational facilities include tennis courts, squash courts, an indoor sports hall and an indoor swimming pool.
CHARGES
The course fee is currently £50, payable on submission of the application form. A further charge of £140 is made for accommodation and all meals.
GRANTS
Sponsors of the Summer School have provided a fund to give grants to those who cannot afford the full cost of the course. It is hoped that adequate financial assistance can be given to everyone who needs it. Most bursaries will be between £25 and £75, but it should be possible to give larger sums where essential. Travel may also be a significant expense, and therefore money has been set aside for needy students who live more than 100 miles from Repton. Students should not be put off applying for the course because of financial constraints.
Some schools and universities (and one or two local education authorities) give grants to students attending summer schools. If you can get a grant from any of these sources it will save the J.A.C.T. bursaries for those who cannot get money from elsewhere.
